Hylis wrote:The future of hosting on Ubisoft servers, in my oppinion, and it could be see otherwise by discussions with other people at the company is:

Beginners (Echelon 0 and above)
Different moods and pleasant to see: underground, night, water, wild, castle, techno.
Discovery of some specific feeelings: slides, labyrinths, jumps, nucleus, arrows, powerpath
And more importantly: simple choices, anti-rush (attack safe zone) simplier orientation

Bronze (Echelon 1 and above)
The maps that have been hosted just before (Nadeo maps)
And maybe diversity as a must

Silver (Echelon 4 and above)
A selection of competitive maps among previous ones
A selection of some tournaments maps around
Diversity can be helped with maybe a vote among 3 or 5 random picked at the start (one vote, one chance)

Gold (Echelon 7 and above)
Hopefully the bi-monthly map pack that the community would be able to determine for top level competitions
With vote map (more likely, but still maybe)
In theory this might sound good, but I promise you that the current Nadeo maps are not fun for most bronze players and up. I get that the beginners who have never seen the game need a tutorial on how to play, and the maps might work for that. But if you want to succeed as an e-sport game with a big supporting community behind it we need to be able to play just like the pros we watch, even if we we aren't as good at the game. Dividing the top 500 from the rest of the players will not work, give us the same playing field.
Hylis wrote: For me, map diversity is a must, and will look after bringing a way to experience diversity for players around. It is good for evolution and finding new cool type of situations (maps that are not played are not really tested) for possible regeneration of competitive scene (more difficult to invite players to join you on maps you train since years) and renewed interest for spectators (diversity in maps, in tactics and in situations) Players would say that they would need to train more if maps change, but that's part of interest as well, meaning that your training can make a difference on one competition. I know it is a very long debate. Some would say that LoL has only one map, but champions change all the time on the other side. Starcraft metagame, balances and maps are also changing. It's a question of balance for me: how much has to change and how quickly: 2 maps per month in a pack of 7? 3 maps bi-monthly in pack of 9? 7 maps per week in a pack of 365? 1 map per decade in a pack of 5? Happily, Maniaplanet enables to create/host in a great diversity of ways. So, I think a good balance will be found, much more than blindly copy/paste from other games, including FPS or TM.

Some games abandon pros, some abandon wide audience. It takes time, but we are trying to make something that is interesting for both: the casual can improve and pro can have casual that became pro to compete with, or simply have casual that watch them play. There is much more players than spectators or pros at LoL. So, wide audience is a good thing for pro and be sure that I listen more to players that integrate this logic into their reasonning, than pro-only approach. And people that would not believe in it being possible, it is just sad.
I think you are making this out to be more complicated than it is. I agree that map diversity is a good thing, Mania-actu are doing a phenomenal job with their map-pack which changes maps every few months based on community votes. Maybe you could try to support the map-pack and new maps more, having map-making contest and try to encourage people to vote for their favorites.
Hylis wrote:But many things can change if we encounter new reasons to do otherwise. One thing, for example, is that if maps stay the same too much into the tournament community, then we invite them to host their own top level matchmaking servers, but would try to suggest more diversity on our own.
I really don't understand this logic at all. If you recognize that a big part of the community would like a tournament map hosted server, why should the fans be doing all the work and pay for servers? A good easy and quick solution would be to have the current Nadeo map server for new players (Echelon 0 and above) and change the silver+ server to a tournament map server and use the Mania-actu map-pack. What good does an empty silver+ server do? Make some fans happy and give us a (Echelon 1 and above) MM-server with tournament maps.

Thanks for listening! :)

Cool :thx:

Mooon, I believe we understand each other on many points. One the one you don't understand the logic, just try to see the difference between knowing what you want and ignoring what you miss. In Shootmania, you have armors based on natural numbers, no violence, laser with three points, progressive jumps, no switch weapons, no splash damage, no big rocket jumps, wall jumps, stamina, denials etc. Not sure players would have asked for these choices right from the start, not sure some would agree today on these ones. If you give a key for a player to win instantly, he will most likely use it (trainer in the old time, or embeded solutions in adventure games) But I don't think it's making good for him. So, I just try to make your food better, more healthy. And sorry to take my job too seriously on that ;) I do it for the health of the future. Diversity is healthy. Same maps over years is unhealthy, in my perspective. Convince me otherwise (without bringing 'old' FPS as arguments, since who knows if it's not the reason they would be less popular than LoL & SC) and I may do otherwise. But so far, diversity is still a must in which I believe in.

The lobby 3.0 ( :D ) is available for download.
It requires ManiaLive 3.1.

Hi, I like the new Silver+ matchmaking lobby, but it doesn't give ladderpoints past 50k? Is this intentional?

This version doesn't work for me in Combo. No error but the progress bar for the time doesn't move and we will wait infinitely.

I dont know if NADEO has anything to say when it comes to making maps official,

But i truely believe that with some adjustements NADEO could really make awesome competitive maps.
I just played Wetwork & I loved it. Its not 100% competitive but its original, cool, beautiful & just fun to watch.

Like i said before in this thread : the new castle, collided & the one with the railpad in the middle are looking awesome too.

@ Dreammyw0w : Those maps ( Matchmaking Bronze 1+) in their actual versions, are in the game since the release of Storm. (April) They aren't that new. :p

I agree that Collided and Fortress are better than the originals.

I'll be working on some updates for those maps. (For example, the updated version of CastleCrasher with the slides was really a poor decision.)

But the goal isn't really to make Nadeo maps official ones. Just to build good maps and offer a varied experience for the players. And, for the record : building an Elite beginner map is harder than building a competitive one. =)
