The idea with the locators was not that bad, but I think there was already something better before, although it was not really used for skins: the Trackmania Exchange map ids. This could be extended to mods and skins and also be used at Maniapark.

But while maps only need protection against undesired manipulation, skins also need protection against undesired usage, e.g. very personal skin or clan skin.
This would mean that if skins were uploaded on a - say nadeo skin - server, also some user management should be there.
I guess Nadeo (nor anybody else in the community) would not want to deal with thousands of "silly" queries only related to skin user permissions.

No the idea of locators isn't bad, it is a simple solution that works well once you know how to use it. But it is to complicated for the average gamer that just wishes for a custom skin. TM has been around for sooooo long and still there are no better solutions to replace this.

Maps & map blocks & mods; that is something much more complicated and I perfectly understand why TMT won't support it. It is some customization you bring to something you create. If you decide to create a map with custom items you must understand that it will be harder to distribute.

But skins, since TMU we can directly download them from in the game, yet we still can't easily share them and need to rely on someones locator which uses a url that might or might not work.

For the permissions, well Nadeo can simply host only one skin/3d car per user, and not bother with detecting same skins. That way the only host one per player and that is all. I don't know

yeah, I agree about the locators.

It sounds reasonable to have only one custom skin, one custom avatar, one custom horn (if Turbo even allows it) per profile.
Perhaps even with some restriction of file size, so the Nadeo/Ubisoft servers are not overloaded.

I am glad that the Turbo will remove all of this - suicidal mania-wagons, laden with tons of crazy ideas that fall down into a deep abyss.
