Yeah, I did read that, but it sounded more like a maybe than something you will actually do.Hylis wrote:Eyebo, you said that you have read all, but have you read the fact that you can convert back EP to Planets according to a floating tax?
So the Planets are not lost. They're just stored in a different form. I get that.Hylis wrote:First, what is important is that all the contribution to anti-inflation is kept into EP. Tax systems shall do the same in my oppinion. People would better understand the importance of it and of the people who pay them if it was in memory somehow. Memory of a player who succeded by making things or maybe by wining cups or probably something else.
Fair enough.Hylis wrote:Second, we have to see what we will do with EPs. Nothing is lost at the moment, just a anti-inflation ready system in place.
An interesting solution. I think it would help a lot.Hylis wrote:At the moment, I made additionnal thinking on my economics alchemy stuff and I found a rather efficient system from my perspective. In order to balance the economy, we need to have the right parameters, and easy to adjust. For people who made fortunes in the past and would like the community to provide them with wealth in the future for it, I have designed a solution. It is hypothetic, but if I don't find flaws, we will probably do it. Each day, any player will be able to convert an amount of EP back into Planets. However, a tax will be applied at this moment in order to reach a situation where the total amount of EP back into Planets do not exceed 10% of the economical wealth per month.
Right from the beginning, this tax will be of 20%. If it was 0%, everybody would do it even if they don't need planets.
If too many people convert back to planets, then it is going to go 30% etc.
So, the economy is mainly ruled by two values:
How much % of the global wealth we give to all players, combined, per month.
How much % of the global wealth we allow to all players, combined, to convert back into the economy per month.
This conclusion is very interesting for me since the first value rules the dynamism of the daily economy and the second one include the concept of acquiring richness for the future but both being easy to master.
Something I've begun to understand quite clearly. In-game currency would probably not be important to have at all if it were not for at least three things:
1. Preventing the abuse of services (including downloads from MLs). Everyone has a finite amount of Planets at any given time, so they can only do so much with them. They have to choose how they want to spend them on and what is important to them.
2. Increasing the value of goods. If you have to pay for something, it tends to gain more value in your mind. Even if its rubbish, it still tends to be worth something to you because you exchanged something of value for it.
3. Allowing the community to organize itself better. Those with the know-how and clout to organize events or run really good servers are rewarded with donations by other players and so they become richer as a result... but they can also use those funds to promote events and provide prizes, or pay for ladder upgrades to their servers. With this new system, server owners running active servers even get Planets from Nadeo? At least the OP said that would be happening with this new system.
I only fear people will hold back on donations in the future if they want to hold onto their Planets to gain more EP for themselves. But maybe people aren't actually that greedy.
I could actually see people participating in more events, trying to win more Planets... and generally gain more wealth... just so their EPs go up.
It could actually increase activity for some.
Hylis wrote:Then, political situation should be easy with a worldwide vote of the two values by making it not at a majority vote and to ignore the minority (what a great concept) but by taking into account all oppinion in a mathematical way after having ask to everybody what the two values should be according to them. And knowing what are their Planets and EP may be useful at that moment, but it is an even bigger debate ^_^

I think there's one important thing I personally have to keep in my mind...
No Planets are actually lost. They're just stored in a different form as EPs. If we do gain the ability to convert some of them back, that will help soften the pain of adjusting to this new system.
But a lot of users who amass wealth may not actually use their Planets for anything. So storing them as EPs may actually be a better choice for them. The EPs are just as useful, if not more so, as having a huge pot of Planets sitting there unused.
Also, if I understand correctly... if you're one of the majority of people who has very few Planets in the first place, your bonus at the end of the month could actually be more than the amount that you had converted to EPs. So for new players, it can be an exciting way for them to get more involved. Of course they're not the ones posting here because they have nothing to complain about.

So the new system, in a sense, can be a way to boost the wealth of many... which means they'll have more Planets to spend on tracks, skins, mods, etc... or to start their own events or promote their own creations. For them, it could increase their incentive to be more active within the community.
Well with anything new there's bound to be some bumps along the way. I'm in it for the long haul and whether I totally agree with the new system right now or not... I do find it interesting that you're trying something new.
No system will be without flaws anyway. The important thing will be how we adapt to it and use it.
Thanks for listening to the community Hylis.
