"No dickheads" is a pretty important assumption though.
Try playing GRiD online. At the first corner there is always some jerk who doesn't brake or sideswipes the person next to him so everyone crashes and at least a few people get wrecked. Then whoever gets back on the road first and still has all of his wheels wins.

My God is a vengeful God.
Re: Collision Detection for TM2
You can say that for most races, even irl, when there's a huge starting grid. All you had to do was be careful in the first turn and most people made it out ok. I used to play GRID online a lot and I'm pretty sure I've only been wrecked out in the first turn twice.EnaiSiaion wrote:"No dickheads" is a pretty important assumption though.

Anyways, I think Collision Detection would work as an unranked, player-size limited (10?) server option. It would also require a special start piece and servers would have to make sure to pick maps that could actually allow for a race to happen without everyone getting crashed in the first bottleneck. Tracks would have to be purpose-built just for collisions being on.
Re: Collision Detection for TM2
In most games like GTR Evolution (Race 07), Shift and Need for Speed, which have collisions, there are trolls in almost every online match - they usually drive backwards or run into people attentionally. This, without doubts, causes a lot of frustration.
I'm not saying that collision is bad, but it's very hard to implement in an online game cos people can always do stupid stuff and ruin the race for you. However, I would very much like to see that option toggle in TM - for example, it would be fun to race with one or two of your friends on a passworded server, with collision on. Then again, TM is all about putting in the best time you can and a lot of people trying to do so at the same time, without collision. If you played TM with collision, it really wouldn't be TM, would it? It would be an interesting, but totally different experience and would be very risky and time-consuming for Nadeo. I think that we don't actually need it, TM had been doing very well without it and I really think that that is one of the reasons why it is very competitive and there are no hard feelings cos noone can push you off the track - if you have a bad time, it's completely your fault.
Just my 2 cents...

This would work only on small rounds server and splitscreen. I think it would be cool, but I'm not optimistic to see it happen.
It's funny, this thread has ½ of ppl complaining somebody would hit them and ruin their time and the other half understands that's the main idea in collisions
It's just a different playstyle, like Rounds vs Time attack.

Re: Collision Detection for TM2
This is totally against the TrackMania spirit... Trackmania is all about one startpoint, and no collisions aka equal for everyone.. You want a brand new game.. this would make two types of maps, two different games... and therefor make things less seamless...

Re: Collision Detection for TM2
They need to add collision detection or this game will NEVER compete with other racing games like motorstorm.
Hell, EA is already killing their best racing games and it STILL beats all of the other series of Trackmania!
In layman's terms, they need to add car bumping or this game is gonna go nowhere.

No, that's stupid, if they don't add this then this game is going to be like the rest of the Trackmania series, NOTHING.CoMAN wrote:This is totally against the TrackMania spirit... They all had huge jumps, they had crazy ramps and tracks, and if they don't add collision detection then people would rather buy the old series rather than buy the new one where they're only changed the graphics and looks of it.
Re: Collision Detection for TM2
It's not stupid, it's an opinion dude. Also, they haven't only changed the graphics. I mean, yes, Editor/Mediatracker etc, but the car handling and environment is what counts and this is of course different to TM1. It's a matter of taste which game you choose.Mr-Masculine wrote:No, that's stupid, if they don't add this then this game is going to be like the rest of the Trackmania series, NOTHING.CoMAN wrote:This is totally against the TrackMania spirit... I don't think Trackmania wants to compete with racing games like Motorstorm. Like they now did it with Shootmania, Trackmania is a game that was designed e-sport friendly. It's all about skill. In a pure and easy way. That is the thought behind this game and I think there is no sense to demand collisions because it wouldn't fit in this concept. Both this concept and the concept of having collisions have their pros and cons, but there is no other game that uses a similiar concept like TM. It's that special thing (besides the editor) that sets it apart from other games and I wouldn't wanna miss that.Mr-Masculine wrote:They need to add collision detection or this game will NEVER compete with other racing games like motorstorm.

lamest bump ever... TM is about skill, not about crashing into others like a retard.

I think you might be on to something. like a game mode where opponents become solid would make the game a lot more challenging than ghosts.

Crashing happily since 2009.
