You "think" that, but you don't "know" that (it's seen a few dozen thousand times a day right now). It's not be the most visible place, but at least it a place where people can engage more easilly, so it's nicer for experimenting efficiently with those topics. I suggest you create a campaign and compare the Click Through Rates with campaigns on the maniahome station.

You say you want people to know you're site. If you create an ad, you will have a certain amout of people coming to your site thanks to this ad. If you refuse to create one, that number will be "0". So then again, why don't you want to create an ad?
Ok, this evening I will try

My "it's funny" may have sound condescending. Sorry about that i really meant to say "it's funny how we see things differently from our different points of view" (feedback is always interesting for that). With the points that hylis and I mentioned, it shows that this solution had a lot of issues, so we'd rather focus on a better long term solution.

The main difficulty now for me is to have only one campaign allowed... When you have many manialinks it's a problem. For example, I can't advertise for Raid and Meuhbox at the same time even if this 2 "activities" are totally different. And with a blog you don't earn Planets, you just spend to advertise. So the Meuhbox will be more underground than never

Targetting was also better before. For example Raid is totally uninteresting for Shootmaniacs.

But don't worry, this is not important for me ;) It's just for fun and Planets are only... Planets

You can randomize the list each day.
gouxim wrote:* Bro-bro-bro-ken links everywhere :o
You can create a script which check that the manialinks are ok.
gouxim wrote:* Legal issues

If the players register their own manialinks, I don't think that there is a legal problem. They take the responsibility.
gouxim wrote:* Not very fun to use: text links, hello 1995, do you have you're pager in your pocket? :x
You can generate thumbnails of the manialinks.

I don't like publicities because I see them when I don't search for content.
Seeing a publicities when I don't ask for it makes me in a bad mood: I don't want to click on it (even if the content could be interesting).

When I have nothing to do, I could browse the manialinks to see what's new but the publicities are useless in this case. :(

akbalder, I knew you more agile to find the issues ^_^ if you randomize, people would post more links to various sites, or ask buddies to do, in order to appear more often. When the number would be big, with abuse or not, the service brought to players will be obscure: why would not a very good site not be more in front than a really poor one? Advertising can be seen as the ability of the owner of the site to bring services to the user. We have revenues that are expected to be distributed to popular Manialink, so that even free site can make their own advertising (global license for music equivalent) But thinking that a random list of music would make the music good, or a top 10 list, is also a mistake. Friends links and advertising are the two pillars of the internet, with Facebook and Google as good reference. A search engine would not really work on Maniaplanet, because there is not enough links and "search engine optimization" is kind of a cheat and constant battle between site creator and google. In addition, the changes in the search engine can make or destroy companies, because it could be arbitrary decided.

Please guys, consider that we have think about it a little

I don't know the number of manialinks but I guess that there are less than 100 valid ones.
That's why, from my point of view, a list of manialinks could be kept up to date and would be easy to use.
The players trying to "cheat" the system would be easily detected.

What about something like the Open Directory (dmoz.org) where you list websites in a hierarchical manner? To address the problems with early-birds getting all the traffic, the entries in a particular category could be randomized every so often. People could report dead links to the maintainer or sponsor rotating image links on the side of a category for Planets, similar to ManiaPub. However, text links are not a problem; such a directory succeeds when it can offer a mostly-complete directory of the ManiaLink web, and requiring image links impairs that effort.

I'd try making something like this myself if it wouldn't overwork me. My plugin suite and Manialink site keep me pretty busy. I'd definitely support such a project as long as I didn't have to code the entire directory system by myself.

again:
-randomize is unfair for good sites, and makes people register more in indirect way
-list is unfair depending on the sorting option (alphabetical, dates) etc.

Akbalder says that it is easy to rule and discard 'cheaters' of this, I think he has no idea. We tried it only with community websites of the games, back in 2003, and it was impossible. But anyway, if it is SO easy, just do it, and collect Planets fund to all enthoutisatic people here, to create the Directory site and thrust advertising space. Honnestly, I would be glad to see it, since if it is done by community, you have a greater range of freedom. If we are unfair, we are more easily accused, since we are also the people who are selling the game.
