Dear community,
I have a new suggestion regarding the new upcoming maps and how they are selected:
First of all, Jon, I dont want to step on your toes ( so I apologize in advance ), but why is this map-selection outsourced to mania-actu? Im not saying Mania-actu is doing a bad job... So dont think that.
I just think if NADEO would help it would work better. ( without mania-actu )
Let me explain a bit more , but first I wanna say that
MAPS are a very very very important aspect of the game.
A game can not be good if the maps are bad.
NADEO should run the map-selection process.
-
Better social media ( more people will know about upcoming changes to the mappool or about votes/polls/testers )
--> Post something on the Shootmania FB-page that we're building a new mappool and that all help is welcome?
-
Maniaplanet website ( more people will know about upcoming changes to the mappool or about votes/polls/testers )
--> Post an article on this website that we're building a new mappool and that, again, all help is welcome.
Explain how it works and how the testphase will work out )
-
Maniaplanet forums are better/more active ( no offense )
--> Create a thread that there is new mappool coming and that people ( if interested ) should test maps.
-
Maniaplanet ( INGAME )
--> Show a picture linking to the maniaplanet article to notify people even more.
Suggestion:
PART 0
NADEO should make rules about how this mapselection goes down. ( examples )
- Mappool = 9maps.
- 4will be removed, 5will stay
- All maps need to be uploaded onto mania-exchange
- Mappers should share their maniaplanedid.
- Rules
- Rules
No discussion possible if we have good rules.
PART 1:
- Create a poll asking the community which maps can be removed from the current mappool.
- Announce which maps will be removed after the poll.
PART 2:
Make a subforum called "MAPS"
Every mapper can post his map there in 1 thread. ( 1 MAP = 1 Thread )
Everybody ( not just testers ) can leave suggestions for each map...
Polls for these threads can be mandatory.
PART 3:
Nadeo should run servers hosting these new maps with that
thumbsUp/thumbsDown or KARMA plugin.
This way we get instantly feedback about the map of MANY MANY players ( instead of just a handful of testers )
This data should be made public. ( duh )
Im talking about a matchmaking server btw.
Problem : Players will just play on the current matchmaking servers. A solution for this could that the matchmaking server with the new maps gets extra attention somehow ( always show it on top ) or give more LP or whatever. ( as a reward for helping the community test. )
PART 4:
Looking at the forums & KARMA-statistics we could remove the worst maps every 2weeks. ( a group of pro-testers could decide about this. )
We could repeat this process until we have 10maps left and then make a giant POLL that should , also , be advertised everywhere. ( Not just mania-actu. )
So basically it would be better ( and easier for us testers ) if the community could help more and that we get more feedback & stats so that we end up with better maps in the end.
Other remarks:
- Mappers will be ofcourse updating their maps during this process so it would be cool that everyday ( or every 2 days ) new versions of these maps would be uploaded onto those servers. ( So we arent play-testing on 'old' maps )
- The role mania-actu can have in this is coverage. They can post the polls, articles & thats it.
-
NADEO should have "no say" in what maps will finally be put in the mappool... Let it be about the community.
- Current forum moderators could also moderate the "MAP subforum"
- Once a map is made official
the mapper should receive a STAR, PLANETS or a BADGE. Anything!!
- It would motivate mappers to actually make a map and do their best.
- I bet a lot of mappers dont even know they can send out maps to mania-actu atm to become official.
Again, im not trying to make mania-actu look bad. Im just not entirely sure that the way the mapselection process currently is, is the best & most efficient way. There is room for improvement and im only sharing my thoughts and experience.
Please discuss
