It goes both ways... if the game had regular ESWC sized events, the amount of countries and teams wanting to play would also be higher. If you only have small French events (that are too small for any non French team like my high focus to attend), and 1 largish ESWC event, this is all you can hope for.

With 8 slots and several of them french, this event feels more like a private party than a legit world tournament.

True unfortunately. 3 teams will definitely be french +2 application forms which could make it a total of 5 french teams.
Then we have most likely one qualifier for the US which leaves us with two remaining slots for the rest of europe.
Bit unfortunate for shootmania as it was a great promotion for the game last year.

I don't remenber one time french team was pick up by aplication forms.

this was just assuming they would pick 2 french teams (porbably a bit unlikely) not saying they are going to do it, I just wanted to make my point a bit more clear that european teams have less chances to qualify
