The file is checked to see if it exists. Then it is checked to see if the file is a .png or .jpg. This is done by looking at the meta info but the url's most also end with .jpg or .png
If this is not the case, the logo will not be shown.

But Elite has health bars to show players left so what's the point of another widget?

I've put the reason in the first post. We have it running on our server and find it to be very handy, that is why it is shared with the community. There are plenty of reasons not to install it, as there are enough reasons to install it.
