Correct me if I'm wrong cuz I don't remember the source on this one, but I think TM2 is a complete overhaul--in order to have the whole Maniaplanet running off of one engine--the decided to make a new one rather than use the old one, cuz it was kinda starting to look outdated...IIRC...
