- They care more about the prestige and yet they display something much more negative than having the word 'cars' written in a software and much closer to what shame can apply to, like if a work that is not changed would be more a shame than how they express themselves.

- They insult the developer of the game they are playing, like if they were playing the game made by stupid people that do not care for their game. What a loss of time.

And now, I am not talking about Ravior, but I have seen really shy people act like this online, like if they had to prove something by trying to be superior to whatever. They seems to prefer to destroy instead of being constructive and positive. I think I should give a word about this, since it is not really troll. It is lesser than that, it makes me think more of goblins. I know it is less of beauty, but when they express themselves, especially about beauty, love, intelligence, it makes people smile a little.

Sorry, but one day someone said what was a troll. And we need words to communicate better in our world.

Hello,

I think Ravior's opinion isn't so wrong. I don't play shootmania at all, I play only trackmania canyon and the first thing I thought when I opened trackmania and I saw the new menu I said to myself "Wow that's really nice and colorful" but I thought I was on shootmania ^^ It really fits with shootmania but not really with canyon and I don't think with valley too... Maybe stadium ^^ And yeah, when you go on the solo campaign menu on canyon it's totally different than the menu just before ^^

I know it's a beta and some things will changed (or not) but Ravior's not so wrong (surely as he exprimed that but that's another story ^^)

not talking about the way ravior told it, but he's right: ALL the UI/GUI needs some major restyling, and should be done in ONE style, not in 5-6 like it's now. I still feel that pre-MP menus (canyon only) looked the best.

Dear Hylis,

I am sorry. I do not and never want to insult anyone. I just think that it is really hard to talk about the emotions one has by using kind and subtle words always. When you see stuff, its rather like this: If you like it, you won't really take notice of it. If you think somethings great, you express it kinda overwhelmingly. And if you dont like something, youll take more notice of it than everything else.

What I just wanted to say is that I cant understand how this has been created and came to Q&A because I think it is not anywhere near the quality which is expected of the high quality work which I'm used to from Nadeo! ;) :)

Also, the localisation errors (like the example with "Cars" where it should mean "Character" or something like that) makes me feel as if theres no one really looking through the basic stuff.

As a player, I'm with you. I like what you do - thats the main reason I bought the game even if its in beta. I also bought Trackmania-Sunrise and United as well as the new Canyon - because I always liked the idea of that the whole Mania series giving so much power to the players.

And as such a person who really likes all this and wants to see it being released finally - i'm even that enthusiastic that I'm telling all my friends about this game - it is easy to be dissapointed sometimes.

I know that I used really harsh words there - and this is my fault; Sometimes I'm just feeling too much involved for letting things pass that I cant understand. So, I'm really sorry, but I hope you understand me a little.

Okay? :)

What's up with the sound issues? Will there be any change to it?

And with issues I mean how it all blends together and makes sound kinda irrelevant, useless and/or plain weird in the game as it is now.
There can be many things that effect the way I hear the sound and so on but from what I've heard so far from others it seems like its more or less the same for them to.
The fade in of sound by distance is real weird and not at all realistic. It's basically no sound to what sounds like he's standing next to you within a few meters. Sure the update of the sound made it a bit better but it still seems to fade in really fast (on stone that is since that's what I've tested and felt was easiest to compare with the earlier soundversions).
Also the width of the stereo mixing seems weird. I'm far from an expert :P but might it be that the sound actually plays to loud and exactly at the same time in the side that the soundsource isn't on? I'm thinking of how sensitive the brain is to actual difference in delay between the ears soundpickup. As in sound gets to first ear on sourceside a fraction of a second earlier then the other ear.
Might it be that since the sound actually plays in the otherchannel quite loud and with no delay that the brain gets very confused and many games that feels right actually don't even play the sound in the left channel if the source is on the right side of the player.

That's my thought basically of what can cause that it for me actually feels just disorientating playing with the sounds the way they are right now. It feels like whenever you have a rocket in flight it dampens the fotsteps so you can easily get rushed and taken offguard if the rusher comes from an angle that is offscreen.
Even your own fotsteps is blending so much with other footsteps that its hard to hear a rusher intime to act.
But that might just be a consequense of how a fotstep within 30m actually has almost excactly the same volume as your own steps.

All in all I'm curious in what kinda discussion and ideas about the sound is going on right now.

The sound is absolutely fine for me in 2.1b. I can certainly tell where others are, e.g. if there are people flanking me or coming from behind. And unlike 2.1, where right behind me and 30 metres away sounded identical, distance judgement is not an issue.

Then I would be interested in your settings and setup. I run a normal 2 speaker headset and had to uncheck any option under sound for ManiaPlanet to get as good sound as possible. Still It is really hard to be accurate about locations, not totally impossible if it isn't overrun by other sounds. But the fade of by distance is negligible. And all combined you have no idea what's going on around you when rockets are flying and everybody is stepping. Unless its on the screen but then thats not what the sound is for.

Well, my sound settings for MP look like this: http://i.imgur.com/WtyeRAr.png
I have integrated sound card, pretty much default settings for everything, and cheap headphones.

I take it you have the system setup for plain stereo as I have. I'm not using any enhancements like vitual surround or anything. I want clean sound as game intended and so on. EFX just adds a bit of echo effect on every sound to make them seem "larger" it seems.
Are you running the system as plain stereo? And are you really serious when you say you can tell by sound how far away people are. For most its pretty impossible to determine if its 2m or 30m away. And that's when not getting disturbed by other noise like rockets and so on.

My point is that's the way it is now is really really bad for the game in general. And even if you can get used to it it's still not changing that it is bad and much worse sound then in other games.
