2Nadeo: have you considered volumetric billboarding/sprites/textures? They are very very very very VERY cheap. At least compared to a polygon shape that would give the same detail. And you're using C so that's very compatible with all the voxlap optimizations.

Can you be more specific? What do you mean exactly by volumetric ? What benefits do you expect from a texture always seen from front ?

I agree the part with the moving sprite wasn't a very good choice, it's the worst point of view for looking at them. but the movie is entertaining.
