No it's not supposed to be a direct port, just a direct port of the general game with updated polycount. Faking exploits of the old engine on a higher polygon surface would be stupid. They knew the polycount would interfere with the smoothness of the blocks, thus a direct port would be impossible to deliver.
The original cars, that actually are directly ported from the 2006 game
wrong.. stadiumcar now has brakelights. just num2 and brake to see a T appear, and on the airscoop there's 2 lightblocks as well.
The cars handling is also slightly different, TM2S feels slightly "heavier" or "slower". TMF still feels quicker and more fun to drive.
as explained above, that's a high poly thing.
The sound is just terrible. This has been discussed in several threads. The skidding sounds from the car is way too loud compared to the Engine sound, completely taking over the audio ruining the entire experience.
this kinda contradicts with the "heavier" statement.. If a car has more grip the rubber tends to wear off quicker on the surface, so it should be louder. (there's also some additional audio adjustments to fiddle with through the main launcher instead of through ingame)
It seems to me that the "benefits" of MP is more in favor of the other titles where you have big landscapes and scenery and for the more creative part of the players that find their amusement in creating videos etc.
that's because there weren't any official intentions to create a stadium environment for tm2. But they listened to the community and added it as a bonus (for half price) while working on Valley.
It seems as long as the heart of the game, the game-Engine, ManiaPlanet, is in fact still in BETA. So we have 3 released (4 shortly) Non-Beta games on an Engine that's still in Beta.....Makes no sense to me.
Actually you're wrong here. Maniaplanet isn't the game engine, it's the game platform, hosting all files needed on the clientside and making sure the client can communicate with them. The game engine itself is stable and, as it's written by nadeo, they just add new features when they need them. The bugs are part of the gamecode, not enginecode. That's how they can update 1 game at a time and fix stuff.
In the meantime, as long as the game is not delivering a fun experience, i (amongst others) are simply playing other games and drifting apart from the game.
It's easy to say that "keep playing TMF then" and yes, that's basically what i do. There are still quite a few players and a good atmosphere but, i don't Think that this was the plan with "porting" TMF into MP. That must have been to get most of the "old" playerbase into the new system and get them as paying customers in order to develop the game further and avoid the problems from the old game.
Right now it's summer and lot's of other nice, cool things to do. Will be exciting to see if they manage to turn the ship around till autumn when the "masses" start spending more time behind the computer again.
I wish you all the best for summer and for Nadeo, the best of luck moving forward.
And yet you keep coming back after a while, that's the beauty of the game.
Sidenote, the fact they kept their promise on the "forever" part and not shut down the old ranking servers to make room for new ones is something you won't see with any other racegame i know. They actually allow you to decide if you're going back to TMF.
Goodbye ManiaPlanet.
probably should've been "BBL ManiaPlanet"
