You never have problems finding a server to play on though. Latency has no effect on time attack mode so I play from australia on european and american servers fine. I've heard that Trackmania 2 has other game modes, but I've never seen them. I believe they are just an urban legend.

lol, they are there alright, but they seems to be only on 60+k servers, so I had to farm lp on those popular servers with boring tracks for a while :S, but that means the real fun starts now

About 150 people on Canyon servers & about 6,500 people on "real" TM servers, I guess everybody can/will draw their own conclusions as to what these figures mean...

And I bet 90% of those 6,500 are in nations-only servers -- you draw your own conclusion about how boring that is. 70% are hardcore "purists" who say if it isn't Stadium, it's not even worth trying -- and don't even see the irony that they call themselves purists when their "purity" wouldn't exist if the first six environments hadn't been popular. 50% are attending universities and don't have the money to buy a new game even if they wanted it. 24% never even heard of TM2, or think it's some newfangled anti-pirate trademark. 10% have just made a more important and far more extensive, not to mention expensive purchase. 5% are the same people you saw in the Canyon servers. And 1.53846 x 10^-4 % doesn't care how many people are on Canyon servers compared to TMF because he likes Canyon no matter who he's playing it with.
Yes that number is correct... it should be a lot longer though.
And why do you imply canyon isn't "real" TM? What makes Canyon less valid as TrackMania than Desert, Snow, Rally, Bay, Island, Coast, or ... [shudder] Stadium? And I'm talking about before the forced MP 2.0 beta which really wasn't forced at all if you paid attention.
And you're right, that is a trick question, but I bet you can tell what I'm really asking.

Alter-Fox......
-------------------------------------
These topics have become quite interesting to me... almost to the point of becoming comical.
After reading so many posts from topics like this, I've come to the conclusion that there are basically three different types of people who seem to create and reply to topics such as this.
There's people who are legitimatly asking whether they should spend money on the game. They wonder if they buy it... will it just be dead in a few months? It's a legitimate question. It's a serious question. A lot of games die out after a very short period of time.
Well, TM2 Canyon is about a year old now. There's slightly less activity than the buzz of activity there was at the start. However, there's still a very solid and strong community here. So I wouldn't worry about the TM community going anywhere in the near future. It will only grow larger again as the game itself grows and expands.
Then there's also the people who like to get online for a few minutes during the lowest time of day. They see 10 people on the top server, 5 people on each server after that. Suddenly they shape their entire opinion about the activity in the game on that one very narrow slice of time and proclaim in the forums that the game is indeed dead. These same people tend to also say that Nations will always be the best and that Nadeo should have made a new Stadium environment instead of wasting their time on Canyon. Stadium is the answer to everything. They also complain over any bug or possible glitch and think that the game should work perfect since they spent money on it. They are quite happy to live in their little dream world.
The other group of people are ardent defenders of Nadeo and TM2. They acknowledge it isn't perfect, but they know it will get better in the long run. They try really hard to look at things optimistically. They endeavour to look at the big picture and look towards where the game will be in 2 to 3 years when there is a diverse ManiaPlanet with multiple environments and hundreds of custom gamemodes, custom objects (or possibly even custom blocks), and a community engaging in all aspects of the game. They're sometimes overzealous and say hurtful things about Stadium, not because they hate Stadium, but because they're simply tired of hearing that it's the be-all and end-all of the TM experience. They know there's more to enjoy and they want others to see the beauty they see.
I think as long as these three groups of people exist, these types of topics will always exist, and even thrive.
I'm sure I've defended my viewpoint enough times that I need not state it again. But maybe my choice of words already show some bias towards my viewpoint.
Please don't think I'm trying to shoehorn everyone into specific categories. There are actually as many varied viewpoints as there are unique people on the forums. And everyone's opinions are of course nuanced in their own ways, which is actually what keeps things interesting.

But as long as the first group exists, we shouldn't let people (with their own perception no matter what that perception is) define what is and isn't "real" Trackmania, except Nadeo.
Posts that say things like that are really just saying "I don't like this game, so no one should buy it". There's always the possibility it was someone unfamiliar with English who didn't mean to say that, but from the tone of his post I really doubt that.

Okay, first - TM2? It's worth it. The car handles nicely, has a good feel to it, and the entire game is beautifully made. Oh, and if you're worried about lack of people or future then don't be. There are over 400 people I meet up with on a regular basis, quite a lot of them play games, and only 2 of them other than me have even heard of Trackmania. Maybe it just hasn't had the coverage so far - if there are still people who could get the game and have not bought it yet, that means that there is still room for the community to grow. Shootmania and Trackmania have not been advertised at all in the UK, unlike many more popular games.

Nobody in the US has really heard of it yet either.
All the different opinions and feedback about all the games, the Good ones, the Bad ones and even Ugly all help Nadeo fine tune what
they want to do into something Most people will enjoy.
67% of statistics are made up? I thought I read somewhere it was only 66%
