I named some more important feature in the list above, such as in game competition list. ESL can make their competition official, put the stream links, the calendars and rankings. We can know who is ranked first in the world and he can have his sponsors in game etc. Maniaplanet itself is a great addition, things are more capable of being customized, such as modes. It is not all perfect, of course.

"Theres a reason that the games with the greatest prize pools are the most popular ones in eSport?"
It is not because you remove the symptoms, or add it, that you remove the illness or add it. Big prize pools are a consequence of big eSport, it is not the way around. Big prize pools are sometimes used as marketing tool to bring the awareness to the title, which is logical, but since prize pool are split between top players, I don't know how it can make millions of them come. So, it is more important to improve the quality of players attitude, commentaries, formats of circuits etc. Trackmania is a game that is compatible with wide audience, because it can be easily follow, but it would be more interesting to have something like "Acer|FB, first of Sweden - 4th in the world, versus Dignitas|Bergie first of Norway - 2nd in the world" instead of what we have today "Acer|FB vs Dignitas|Bergie" This is why we are making the competition menu right in the game. But it is up to positive and constructive players to acknowledge the interest and use them. They are under testing time, but we need also players to test them. I think that the ones who are insulting our passion on their first post are far from that level of thinking. And other players should help them realize that instead of entering in their game.

There is somehow a list:

* Unite instead of splitting the community. It means to be welcoming about new actors, games etc. It also means to avoid people to insult each others or be negative about works of others etc.

* Try to make the circuit interesting even to people who do not play the game. It means to have a better main structure. Have an official calendar, ranking etc. Try to put regions attached more to players in each tournament. Team based competition between region, even 2vs2, are good for people to follow for less anonymous reasons.

* Put more emphasis on players, for their story, especially if they are able to say positive things

* Use Maniaplanet system to make competition of a great comfort, in order to bring a lot of people to enjoy competition and have interest into it. Dedicated manager tools etc.

I know it is a lot on the side of players, but this is the type of things I believe are important. This is why, compared to this, the attack of FB about the developer lacking passion is a gimmick. Even when he says "There's not really any competition between developers and that's why the progress is very slow" I think that you should answer the guy on his useless attack yourself instead of me if you would like me to answer the technical stuff. I would not answer the technical stuff while he is insulting us about our passion, I think you can understand that.

Anyway, improvements are always improvements, it is useless to say that skidmarks in network would be better. It is on our list since long time, but it is a little tricky for some reason (the network information of the car are interpolated, and interpolated skidmarks would do z-fight like artefacts in the ground) But I don't think that it is a priority for Stadium eSport Development, which is the topic.

Your idea of giving players a "story" seems indeed to be very good, Hylis.
On the other hand you might underestimate the importance of price money. Of course, a big esports community leads to big price money automatically. This is right.
But the other hand we need price money to accelerate the growth. Maniaplanet is at a quite early stage of esport. To change this and make it bigger we need growth growth growth. There is not only ONE way to achieve the growth. Most of your points you mentioned support the growth of the esport of course. But so does price money as well.
Preparing for a tournament takes a lot of time for players, so that they have less time for other hobbies or earning money in RL. Although most players won't earn the price money in a tournament, they are more likely to join it, if they see the price pool. They invest a little more time, as the tournament automatically has more value.
I wouldn't join a tournament for the price pool, but for the fun instead. But I know that a lot of people would do so, especially if they are indecisive at first. I saw a lot of tournaments, where teams participated in the first 2 or 3 weeks, but suffer a loss of motivation in the following weeks.

Overall the growth due to the price pool might be just 10%, but these 10% are way better than nothing. It still is not the main aspect of the esport-growth. Supporting some tournaments with a little money (like 100€) should already do the job I think. Better to have a price money of 50-100€ than nothing ;)

I think I'm really happy that I only play for "fun" instead of these competitions. I prefer competitions where you can win coppers/planets, Tags or whatever. Playing for money is for something, which I don't like, but this is relative of the peoples who do this.

NADEO mades one of the best game which I know and played in my life, I know Trackmania since 2005 and starts to play online since 2008, and I still play it, because I have "fun" (mostly). Trackmania nations ESWC was a "clean" esport game for sure and TrackmaniaNations was "clean" too. But we talk here about MANIAPLANET and not TrackmaniaNations. Maniaplanet is an other system which allow you to download Titles from different games, Race/Shooter/RPG (?). The task of Maniaplanet is to share everything with everyone in differents Titles, I don't have to continue this. There exist still a Youtube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJfkDzd5LAQ)

Nadeo can use the "eSport" things to advertise his titles from his games, but the "eSport" have to decide if they allow this. If people really believe there is problem because of "slots" or something like that, then is this not a problem for Nadeo. All these eSports competions have to decide by himself If they want to make a tournament with money or not. The eSports is in my opinion "just a small" part in Trackmania/Maniaplanet and a Freegame like TMNF will be played "forever". If the "eSports" want or not.

Well, I don't know very much about the "eSport" series, but to complain about a game, which this goal is to connect poeple to each other ("new chatfunction for example") is something which I can't understand. Anyway I saw on the frontpage in stadium etc. a feed where a lot of Teams etc. who make a contest. I don't see there any problems in the future.
Stadium is an enviroment, which "was" make for the "eSports" but is still now in Maniaplanet - Maniaplanet has other goals then TMN(F). In this case, the groups and teams have to think about to create a competition with the prizes whatever these are.

Gamescom, gamerassembly and whatever are a part of advertising from Maniaplanet too, people which are interest will buy this, people who like this idea will buy this, people who played (only) for "eSports" have to think about this. I will repeat me, but when the eSport organise a tournament with money and some other stuff for Canyon, Stadium and Valley, then is this not a problem of Nadeo - It's my opinion.

1 )This is really great features and i'm really glad that you put them into the game. Will the rankings be base on ESL only?

2) When will you update the cam 2, (sorry this might not be a eSport related question so you dont have to answer it)

3) Well Zotac cup is a really good example of investment esport growth. That would be great to put into the Stadium game aswell and is also one reason why i think some people feel the split between canyon and stadium. It doesnt have to be much but it's still great marketing.

4) I would really want to know what you think about the Cup mode improvement Hylis?
Is there any reason you wan't to keep the old system more then the new recommended one?

[Note that i try NOT to offend and be cynical as little as possible, only reason for this thread was to make a bridge for discussion, i don't wan't it in anyway at all be pie throwing war. ] I must thank you for all your time and effort you put in to make this a really enjoyable and great game for us competing players to attend in as for the rest of the community.

1. Ranking will be based on many things, such as people who where in there and popularity for players (like vote) so all competitions can be put inside the system. Sub rankings could be made after maybe.
2. Next update
3. I would rather see weekly cups on Canyon, Stadium and Valley. Does not mean Stadium should be as big as the other. It should be as big as it deserves to be without stopping the others to exist. Marketing questions are a little too side of there. I don't think that the super elitism of duel on Zotac in racing is appropriate to have tons of players in it. Haenry said it that he saw many tournaments losing interest toward players after two three weeks, but that cashprize help. So, since it is elitism, and that some players suggest formats to help them win in a more secure way, there is only a top 8 that could pretend to the victory and reward. As for having tons of spectators for this, it comes back to explaining the story, having ranks and regions link to competitions etc.
4. More participants and spectators is the #1 thing that TM requires. I understand clearly that champions would like to be more sure to win when they go to a competition, but then they would be alone if they are sure and nobody would watch matches that we know all the outcome at the time attack seeding.

#4 is a good illustration on how some champions can diminish a lot the interest of a scene by trying to lobby it. In a 128 players competition, there are 127 players that are not first, and they are the most important ones by a scale of 127. But if you remove the first one, you still have a first one, and 126 other players. It is not a random that the guy who is asking to have this mode has been highly ranked. It's the same in sport since a long time, but good rules and circuit makers knows how to keep a lot of people inside the circuit. NFL is a good example of this btw.

Again, I think the organizers have a role to play in order to welcome many players and make matches dramatically more interesting to watch. I spent two years to convince that rounds mode where less interesting for that than cup mode. Some players are making lose a lot of time to others, because they don't want to lose in competition when they spent a lot of time training. Great champions with good spirit are ok with the challenge and the fact that they need to be super good to win.

Great post kripkee! Just want to post it again ^_^

2. When is the next update, like take a guess ;)

3) Yes ofcourse it's understandable that you market all your games, me personally just dont want stadium to be any different compared to shootmania or the other environments for that matter :)

4) Might there be any chance that you make an alternative CUPmode ? So that there will be more to choose from.
The outcome of a change in the mode or a new mode might turn out to be really great for the spectators and the more choices the merrior?

Thanks for answering the questions.

Its good to see that you mentioned ESL as eSports example regarding engaging everyone interested in TM games. But...

I don't want to chip on your decisions about which league you want to support, but I seriously don't know what was NADEOs expectation after supporting a prize-winning cupseries which is open for all, and now, the same situation is happening with ShootMania. I really don't have a doubt this will happen with Stadium and Valley. After a while, these cups will close again, and maybe you can only bump the activity with a new envi. This strategy cannot be compared with the successful TMNF history.

ET leagues
Trackmania Masters
Trackmania tournament
ESL Premierships and many-many cups/leagues/ladders

If your intention was the same what I understood from this text:

ESL can make their competition official, put the stream links, the calendars and rankings. We can know who is ranked first in the world and he can have his sponsors in game etc.

then I have to say, the open-for-all cups with weekly money prize was a great way to do something what you made statement against in this thread. I could regard it with other words but...ehm. Also no wonder why the players lost interest.

We are running the ESL sections for 6 years now, ShootMania since 1 (not speaking of Canyon, after we had to close it because everyone went to the cupseries where they later became bored of unmotivation because of 0% of chances). Yet, we reopened it now, and focusing on every TM games together. However, it is still painful that after everything the admins did in the past, NADEO never felt it attracting to support our league series - and we know the consequences (EMS, now Fragster too).

Maybe I'm talking a bit offtopic regarding skidmarks etc. but this was the point where I had to grab my keyboard.

So all in all I'm a bit confused about the place ESL has in your and ubisofts mind regarding TM. We want to make eSports for everyone, taking care of every competitive levels, driving styles, with or without prizes. As you stand by for this goal, it is still a preference to leave out the services of ESL (ofcourse they don't sound that good like LANs and stuff). But as I take a look at ShootMania cups or TMNF Premierships (alltogether 18 seasons so far and hundreds of teams) and EMS history, I'm satisfied.

Atm we are on making the story on, but I want to believe that we aren't being said as favorizers. My explanation above is just about how somebody plans/supports the cups/leagues they prefer. I might understand though, if its something what Ubisoft forces...

You can be neutral with all these services like building a Competitions menu to the game, but nowadays the big part of the players want attraction and they like the good old ways of competing. I don't say its a bad thing (its great!), but we still don't know what we can expect of it regarding TM. See Canyon: still having competitions with the old organisations. and I'm speaking in the name of every players, not just the top ones rly.

However, to be ready at all for everything whats expectable, you should quickly fix the most important bugs, like darkness, cam2bug in loops, custom data appearance (yeah rly), and many other bugs which exist since a year...

It is possile that the Maniacs are really maniacs and they have patience but they are still gamers, and they cant wait years for a decent client version. I believe that Canyon somehow is still a beta, as well as Maniaplanet client, and something tells me, that Stadium won't be an exception.

So gogo NADEO...we are waiting for the best and you have some work in queue.

in my opinion, professional eSport on TM can only be a solo one. I mean no team mode with real eSport (with big cash prizes)
At that moment, only live events purpose something good. Zotac system is crap and 1v1 boring as hell. I like ESL, but i have to admit that it's the same there. No 1v1v1v1 cup mode, and the big Team events do not suit to eSport for sure (too many players in teams, too many maps) They are definitly amazing, but can not bring a professional side with this shape. If teams were limited to 3 players (or 5) it coul be better, but i definitly think that 1v1v1v1 cupmode shall stay, as it is the better mode for everyone.

But anyway i see no reason for stad or canyon or valley to fail, since every years there are many events all aroun the world (the world of europe xD), and always bring an amazing show...

You mean the 1v1v1v1 ESL Cupmode provided here in the old days?

Maybe its something for plugin developers to work on it for the different server controllers to bring this life back.

Dunno if the original Cup mode can be found somewhere?
