Edit: I found out now... those three buttons need DOUBLECKLICK 
Please make them useable with single mouse click only, as it is already with the PLAY button.
I can't reproduce at all. The change should be instantaneous.
Maybe it would be good idea to split topic for this specific bug.
Apparently it was fixed before you tried, or I had incredibly bad lag yesterday evening.

It's only possible to edit these settings while in shootmania. You can't in trackmania because they aren't used.

edit; after alt tabbing, not always. but once it happens, it doesnt go away
You can avoid this by selecting "Keep audio always on" on the speaker icon on the top of the screen. I was also experiencing randomness with sounds, I just didnt notice it being caused by alt tabbing.
I feel like the whole new filtering on the audio needs to be fixed,
it does not really bring anything good with it.
