I know. Those Nvidia GPUs have "boosting" technology. 650M standard clock is 835MHz, while boosting it can get up to 950MHz. Every other game can boost properly, but looks like TMUF on win8.1 cannot.
TMUF on win7 - 65%, 950mhz
TMUF on win8.1 - 55%, 835mhz
TM2 with d3d9ex on - 50%, 950mhz
TM2 with d3d9ex off - 100%, 950mhz
disable D3D9Ex in TMUF?..

there will always be a newer OS where older games won't run properly anymore.
you have to accept that support for TMUF is not including further development, which happens only with ManiaPlanet, although they still stick to DX9 there as well.

Re: disable D3D9Ex in TMUF?..
issue is there with TM2 too tho. d3d9ex shouldn't cause the usage to drop by half, huh?

Re: disable D3D9Ex in TMUF?..
Wasn't D3D9Ex not designed to make something at least partially better?
Perhaps you should not look for the loss of FPS with some setting, but for the gain of FPS with the other setting
Please do not always blame Nadeo for things Microsoft or nVidia or the other GPU manufacturers did perhaps do wrong with their drivers

Re: disable D3D9Ex in TMUF?..
I can put TMUF on 800*600 with all low, it doesn't exceed 180fps. I was getting 300fps+ on external display easily. perhaps I have some ground to blame Nadeo for things they implemented in the worst way possible? ^^
if Nadeo said at least something about this, I'd stop ofc. but since they don't...

e2/ let's update BIOS...
e3/ just did, no difference.
e4/ it actually boosts to 950mhz when graphic settings are cranked up a bit, but usage still doesn't exceed ~65% even when on 1080p all max...

Re: disable D3D9Ex in TMUF?..
min settings vs max settings. I think fps difference should be bigger? ^^

Re: disable D3D9Ex in TMUF?..
btw, I noticed that when shadows are being calculated on track load, GPU usage is 99% and clock is 950MHz!.. once the 3..2..1 countdown starts tho, it goes back to 50% and 835MHz...

Re: disable D3D9Ex in TMUF?..
hm, look what I found in the registry... HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Direct3D/Shims/MaximizedWindowedMode, with the key for TmForever.exe set to 1... set it to 0, and now I have the same performance as with the renamed .exe

Re: disable D3D9Ex in TMUF?..
Interesting finding
Can other users with the same issue confirm the performance gain?
Would be great to know
It must be something with Windows 8.x, since with Windows 7, I don't have Shims under Direct3D, ans also not any entry with name MaximizedWindowedMode.
