I remember that those teams aka groups where already available in the beta from Canyon in your profile.
Are we talking about the same thing here or is this something different ? Maybe organisations (organisations can hand out tags to players) are also for hosters of tournaments which is of course something different then just a team. Perhaps a combi of teams and organisations could also be great.

Organizations is a structure meant to "officialize" various things. For instance if you have an organization, you have some discount on Tag creation, and whenever you give a Tag to someone, it is clearly indicated on the Tag (ingame) that it is officialy given by this organization.

The teams were developped for the esport teams. You can create "teams" of players inside a team, and you have a Clublink that is auto-generated (see http://doc.maniaplanet.com/tools/clublinks.html).

Now and for the past years, yes this is correct.

Eg. in official titles such as canyon/etc. (not sure about custom titles), go to the Campaign menu, and you can see medals or SPs of your Zones (for instance World/Europe/France/IDF/Paris) and your Groups. It's been a feature since at least Trackmania Forever
