Aww, was kind of looking forward to see what QM would be like as well. xD
Oh well, it'll all be good in the end, I hope. ^^

What I want to know, honestly, is why this always has to be some sort of dumb competition. Each game fills its own niche--the only game competition I care about is BF vs. CoD, and only then because it forces each company to up their games quality--rather than having a monopoly on the market. SM is not going to be a BF3, it's not even going to try. Well, maybe it will, we don't know.

But what we DO know is that SM is going to be awesome--because it's a shooter based in the Maniaplanet 'verse, what else needs to be said? I mean, seriously, I've always wanted editable shooter maps, but at first, I didn't even know you could do that--and then, the editors were too complex for my limited abilities--either causing me to make terrible-looking or terrible-to-play maps... :-? So being able to make your own map with a block-set editor is like a dream come true for me. And, honestly, even for those who aren't die-hard Nadeo fans like I am, why not give SM a shot?

Halo 4 is coming out soon, as well as BF3. Now, both of those games look awesome, yes. But what's their price tag? BF3 is 69.99 (American), and Halo 4 is guaranteed to be somewhere around there. What's SM going to cost? If Canyon's any indication, then one envi of SM is going to cost 20 bucks. Not to mention the awesome community who will get right to work releasing true gameplay screens and videos the day it's released, if not before (As soon as Hylis lifts the news embargo on the beta--if this pattern is to be followed for subsequent Maniaplanet titles.)

Yes, the new lighting system is great - the tracks look incredible with the soft shadows.
Yes, I'm sure with ManiaScript we'll see some great tracks and new ideas.
Yes, there are many small improvements which make TM2 a great game.
Yes, Canyon is a great environment with a large variety of blocks.

Still I find it unfortunate that Canyon will be the only TM2 environment for the next ... 9 months (if all goes according to plan). Apart from the nice scenery and all the different blocks one thing doesn't change and that's the handling of the car. For me one great thing about TMUF was that I had the choice between completely different approaches to driving in the 7 environments.

Of course you can argue that I can still play TMUF if I'm looking for diversity. But still, couldn't Nadeo have managed to put at least 2 environments in the initial release of TM2 after 3 years of development?

It would keep my attention that long, while the cars physics don't change, there are probably more tracks out now even during the beta release of the game than I could probably ever learn in that amount of time. The thrill for me is when I think I have ran a track as fast as my abilities let me, I can learn a new one. The cars physics, while a part of the experience, if I like how it drives, then I don't care that it doesn't change. Unlike many other racing games where you have a limited number of tracks once you are at your limit of ability to drive faster , then you are pretty much done with the game.

Others may not share that opinion, but for me, it works out perfectly.

Cant find where, but I think Hylis said that for SM multiplayer beta will be really important, since they can't test all the problems with huge masses on a small closed beta

Perhaps the only concern I have for shootmania is the influence of lag on the players. So far ALL Fps's are twitch and lag can have drastic effects on game play.

I agree that shootmania with the Nadeo style of construction would be awesome for novice level builders. The learning curve even for the Unreal engine game is rather steep; although still doable for the dedicated.

My first love ( game speaking ) is shooters. I really would love to be a beta tester on SM and am curious to see how it will pan out.

Agreed. No more Stadium car :teub: I really like to see the wheels while driving , and it makes me miss TMU a bit less :)
