keep you language correct. It is not because you have this type of language in many shooters that you have to bring it here.

I will avoid a debate here, since you can easily imagine that it is a long one and that I have thought many time about this. But keep in mind that the weapon of ShootMania is on the arm of the fighter and that we do not fight with the weapon at the height of the eye. You can tell me that this guy is doing it, but at the same time, there is no gun displayed.

So, the world is strange and you may have to play with SM a little or wait others feedback (who play other FPS as well) to make your final opinion on this :thx:

Okay, hylis. So my language was a little coarse. For that I apologize. That doesn't excuse the fact, however, that you had to either pull back 20 years (thus proving my point) or find some mini-man's freeware project (also proving my point), to find this screenshot. No modern commercial shooter does not have a gun model. It just doesn't happen.

^-- This is a discussion/poll for a Kickstarter-Funded game which is meant to be like the old Rainbow Six games. SO technically, it's like 13 years since games have done that, not 20 :P

Also, I don't know how i'd like watching players with their arms up 100% of their time from my perspective, it'd look weird. :P

Also, Hylis, Operation Wolf mainly used a light gun in the arcades, so are you gonna do Light Gun support now? :roflol:

...or even...

...but only because the gun is on your hand in the game.

The reasons why the modern commerical shooters such as Call of Duty, Battlefield, Counter Strike, etc have viewmodels are:
1) immersion obviously,
2) the guns uses bullets, so it has recoil, and reloading the magazines. Viewmodels helps you see how much recoil you are getting, and the reloading animations inform you the reloading is ongoing and then is done, so you know the gun is now fully reloaded
3) many weapons, without viewmodels, you wouldn't know which gun you are currently using.

Shootmania is an arcade old school shooter, so no point having immersion. There are only 2 guns, rocket launcher and railgun, they do not use bullets or require reloading, and I think you can tell which gun you are using by different crosshairs (not sure about this, but should be in the game). Therefore viewmodels are pointless, and they certainly don't help aiming.

People do want old school shooters, and Shootmania is an ideal game for them. The only game recently released that have the old school feel is Serious Sam 3.

How do you know there are only going to be 2 guns in the released game?

Rocket launcher does indeed use bullets and reloads as of the alpha, so you are mistaken on that point.
I don't see what's so bad about having the viewmodels tbh, but I agree there should be an option to make it hidden (like in UT).

Oh.
Well, I was aware that those are the only two shown so far, but I couldn't find much about it except: "Florent (the game's project leader) has stated there will be relatively few different weapons, the idea being to minimize game time spent not in gameplay."

Source on there only being two weapons in the full game?

From gaming sites' previews and such, so I was only aware of 2 weapons. so if there will be more, fine, I understand you can tell them apart by icons.

I understand that the weapons uses this firepower bar, for rocket launcher, it is 4 shots, so if you fire off 4 rockets in rapid succession, the firepower bar depletes and you have to wait for it to replete to fire more rockets. For railgun, 1 shot deplete the bar in 1 go. I don't really see that as reloading, its more like an energy bar that automatically repletes the shots.

Since the firepower bar and weapon icons are visible, the viewmodels is again pointless.

There will not have only two weapons in the game at the release (we have 3 weapons in the Alpha atm) :)
