Re: TrackMania2: Centralised News about the Game
I'm not saying I want another NFS. There are plenty of games out there with that title, and don't even get me started, cuz I could rant all day about that. I'm saying that with all the -other- features TM is known for (user customization, a MASSIVE replay studio) collisions would take this game from "another epic racing game to add to my collection" to "the only racing game I'll ever own." Especially since new racing games seem to be, counter-intuitively, REMOVING said features. If that's not good publicity for Nadeo and Ubi, I don't know what is.

We will see how it works out. And if there ever would be a collision mode, then why not (as the game will run very long and there is such a big amount what can happen with updates during the years). Maybe in the future this will happen. But if this should happen, then it would be pretty nice to distinguish between servers which can enable and disable this modeTrackmaniack wrote:I'm not saying I want another NFS. But it would be indeed interesting to see how this would effect the building of tracks and doing multiplayer races on it.
Then don't post.hugocool wrote:Too much text. Didn't read.

Collisions would be against one of the main TM concepts. Such game just won't be a TM game.
... and btw, with collisions you can forget/throw away :
- Time attack
- servers with more than 10 players (unless roads are way way larger than in TMF, and anyway roads would already need to be way larger for 6 players)
- equality of chances
- at least 20% of players, who have a far too bad connection quality to be enough real time for collisions (yes, despite of what some are thinking, TM is very bad-connection-friendly)

Then retool the servers so they're more efficient. It can be done. I've played World in Conflict (a fast-paced RTS) on a DIAL-UP connection with almost no lag. So it's not like the technology doesn't exist out there to make it possible. And as for larger races with collisions, with the bandying about of the idea of sequential checkpoints, why not sequential start blocks? I had such an idea in a track I'm working on now...of course, as it has more than one start block, it's only really good for mediatracking and not actual racing, but stay with me. After a time, the multiple starts funnel into one (somewhat wider) track.

Well, i didn't understand... Is there a relase date?
I readed some of the replyes here, and someone is talking about april.. Is it stupid spam or what?
Btw im looking forward to see what will happend to the "friendly" and "Close" comunity of the various forums around trackmania.
Mixing together 3 kind of gamers:
-Racing
-RPG
-FPS-Shoting (what's the other?)
Will create some problems of "incompatibility" imo.
What does maniaplanet will be? A forum? A website? A kind of "steam" program?

Yes, it is. Spam, I mean.dejavu wrote:Well, i didn't understand... Is there a relase date?

Good question, I never really thought about this. I think, it will be like a platform, both in the internet and as a program (like steam? I never used it....). A forum will be there for sure (we're posting in an early version of it :p)..dejavu wrote: What does maniaplanet will be? A forum? A website? A kind of "steam" program?
But we - at least I - don't know any official about this yet.

I hope crashing into other cars never gets implemented into Trackmania. Would totally mess things up...
And as for maniaplanet; I hope it's made a little better than it is now, because right now maniaplanet isn't really known to everyone on Trackmania. I mean if it becomes something 10% of the players use, it would just be awful :S
