Hi all!
Its an old thread but i have an idea how collisions could be made so that some "n00b" cannot come to a server just to screw around (also sorry for my not that good english

).
It could be a seperate game mode like "rounds", only:
1. Player have to win one track (not one round) to qualify for having collisions
2. Only three allready qualified players who finished one round at top places (1,2,3) (or two if one from them does not have a qualification) have the ability to collide with each other for the next round and after that they will lose qualification and have to "earn" it again by winning a track.
From the start line collisions would activate only when players with collision to each other have seperated by some distance and the same after respawning together from one checkpoint.
Or something similar

People have many ideas on how to implement this "feature". I don't think any measures would prevent the chaos that would ensue should such a feature ever be implemented.
Not to sound over-dramatic, but the day Nadeo adds collision detection between cars, even as a server toggle-able option, is the day I uninstall the game and never play it again. For me, it would undermine the entire concept behind the game and send the game down a slippery slope, turning the community into a place I would no longer enjoy being around. I'm not saying, "don't do it!". I'm just saying, if they do it, I won't be around to see it's effects on the future of the game.
Sorry I have to be so close-minded about it.

If they would add collision detection they would add it ages ago, don't worry I'm really sure they will never add it in a future TM game.
Also, if they would ever add collision that would completely destroy the real purpose of Trackmania, get the fastest record on a track, and not Crash into others cars and win in 1st place, No collision is one of the features that makes this game unique and fun.
If we would be able to crash in others cars that would be a huge mess, here is some examples:
people making roadblocks, pushing each other out of the road that makes you wanted to throw the controller at the wall, everyone stuck on a road without being able to move, other cars lagging that pushes you out of nowhere, impossible to finish a single race

I hope you're right.
I'm sorry for all the people who really want this feature. ^_^
Isn't there enough race games with collisions though? Can't we have just one game without them?

Yes.
However nobody could make a Racing game with collisions quite like what Nadeo could likely do.
I wouldn't mind if they created a new series someday Separate from TM2 with collisions and race grids but not in the current TM. The format is good how it is.

There's really only one short and simple answer to this collision-thing wich is: "That's not what TM is about. period. fullstop."
I associate TM more with extreme skateboarding/snowboarding/BMX/MX... If you want collissions, damage and really overtaking people by driving
arround them
whitout hitting them, you're probably best off with playing any simracer offline in solomode. Online is just destruction derby, nomatter what title you play. Even when driving with your very best friends, in the very same room, it will end up in tears. Always.

Maybe at some point it was there.... But it was removed to keep the game simple.
Sometimes more is less to understand the deepness of games

You know... if there's an idiot making an entire mess of your racing when you have collisions... Just ban 'em.
I'd love to see collisions as an option. Just a new server type where a maximum of 12 players can join. With fair start, if you enter the server as a last person and the race has already begun you have to wait for next race.
And if you need to respawn, you can't get hit for a few seconds, till you're approaching a certain speed that collisions won't make a very huge impact. And if their are people ruining the game, kick them, or ban them for 2-3 days. If they ruin it again, ban them permanently.

of course admin always has to be on server to ban all the people.

And then when you really hit someone by accident you'll get banned sooner then you can say sorry
