It's like the display is flicking on and off really fast, the effect is like one of those old movies you can see, where the projector is trying as hard as it can, but the screen flickers causing a kind of rainy/tearing/washed out effect. I've not had this any other rift demos or games.

I have to put this into context, my PC is 4.5 yrs old running two AMD HD5970 cards in crossfire, and it has always been unstable, not just with MP, but with anything. I am going to disable crossfire and see if its the same. I also have a more modern laptop with a Nvidia card in it, which plays rift demos fine, and runs MP fine, so I am going to try that and see what the result is. I am suspecting that I wont get the problem on my laptop and that its to do with my aged AMD/ATI gfx configuration.

Its really nice to see VR support happening though. :thx:
Small update, no flicker issue on laptop, but quite bad judder. I shall try it on lower settings and see if that helps the judder. I have not tried crossfire switched off yet on my main PC. Its a bit of a hassle moving the rift and all the connecting cables between systems.

Yeah I know, there are bigger hassles in life than moving your VR headset between computers

About the judder, have you tried to use "Extend desktop" mode ?
("Direct to HMD" is known to have many issues including an heavy judder on some systems + D3D9 app. - I've this heavy judder on my work PC)
To check that download the latest "Oculus Unity Tuscany Demo" (build with the latest Oculus SDK (0.4.2)):
launch "Win_OculusUnityDemoScene_DirectToRift.exe" (without the "-force-d3d11" option to stay in D3D9)

"Direct To HMD" should be the preferred display mode on Oculus (less latency, no need to switch monitor, output mirroring), yet there are still currently so many issues with it that "Extend desktop" is usually better.

Thanks

I'm always on extended desktop mode for the reasons you say, just about every demo I have tried works better on that setting.

I have just upgraded to 0.4.3 and unity demo is now excellent, silky smooth and running at 70-75 fps according to the measure you get when you press space. I think it must be smoother than it had been previously.

Storm seemed better since 0.4.3, still some judder, but I cant possibly read the text that would tell me the in-game framerate. Stadium was smoother than Storm, some slight judder, but not so much.

For info the card in my laptop is a GTX 675M 2048MB, its approx two years old now, I don't know if this is within the expected HW requirements.
