Ofcourse i dont, and o dont wwant to know it either
I just know that 25x is the best so i use it.
Please don't continue this discussion about what antialias is.. There is something better to discuss about, Maniaplanet and TM2 for example!
I have nevr seen a game where 25 x was available.

When you shoot videos, not in the game itself

It's my understanding (and experience) that when rendering a video through the replay editor... that antialiasing is done by the CPU, not the GPU. That's why you're able to go to max 25x, instead of the default highest of 16x on most GPUs.
I used to have a graphics card with bad memory. This was back in 2007. I'd play TM with all kinds of strange texture bugs. There would be walls where there wasn't supposed to be any. And textures would be in the wrong places, and it was just a mess. But somehow I was able to play some tracks.
Rendering a video completely negated all these problems. That's when I deduced that videos were rendered with the CPU, not the GPU. So I assume the antialiasing is also done on the CPU when you're doing video rendering.
Now with newer GPUs and applications optimized for rendering directly on the GPU... it is possible to use the GPU to render videos. But I don't believe TM1 ever did this.
Maybe TM2 will. That would be awesome since videos would probably render a lot faster on the GPU.

Is -that- why my vids render so slow, even on a top-notch computer?

Yes. The CPU isn't designed for rendering, it is slower, but there are less errors, or so I think.

Anti Aliasing is just for smoothening the edges, so they don't look like stairs

It is needed most on screens with a low dpi /ppi rate (dots per inch / pixels per inch, it's the same thing!).
Also, I think we're really getting off topic, come on Ubisoft, give us another trailer to analyse.

heh, if you want to talk about TM1's graphics issues...anybody remember the effects glitch on Voodoo cards that would render clones of the current paintbrush all across the car? great for pattern skins, not so much for everything else...

You must not have had that problem. My first computer I ran TMS on was a great computer, but it had a shite graphics card. A 3DFx VooDoo 3 card, and it had problems with rendering certain things in TM. Namely in the painter. So when I would go to paint, whatever brush I would choose would not just be one brush, but it would be hundreds cloned all across the surface of my car skin. I eventually learned to compensate for it and made some pretty neat skins if I do say so myself.
