I'm posting this because it's related to the topic and it represents how some others feel in this community.
This isn't my text so dont judge me.
Massive wall of text.
So we're approaching 2 years after "official" release (It looks more and more like they just pushed the game out to make more $$$ since in no way could it be described as being even remotely finished or out of a beta stage) and there have been zero relevant changes to the game and it's problems. Hell, the gameplay hasn't seen any improvements since release at all. Teleports, blocks with doodads that hinder movement/walljumps does nothing to improve the gameplay. Now, those are nothing but minor issues.
First of all you have a ladder that is worthless. It has bronze, silver and gold levels. But everyone gets gold by putting in the time, so why even have bronze and silver? Heck, win 10 games and you're already silver. That alone is one big joke. Yet here we are, with the same shitty system.
They also got told straight away when Matchmaking was released that matching people based on LP was a really bad idea. That isn't even half of it.
This match just happened 20 minutes ago (about 7pm on a weekday, which should equal prime time for most multiplayer games. It's atleast as good as it gets on a weekday).
It doesn't get less balanced than that. But before Hylis comes in and says "But duuuuh, you all have more LP than the other team, so ofcourse you should win" he needs to know that Sparco and Trixda are really good players and they could both have 70K LP and we'd still crush them 9-1. It's because the current ladder does nothing to indicate skill, but only indicates how much time you've put into the game the last couple of weeks, and wether or not you've abused the system. (queueing just as you see people that are somewhat ok ranked, but that you know are much worse than you).
The ladder also encourages rushing, which it seems so many players consider "bad manners" (read: Lower players who should probably still play on a bronze/silver server but thanks to a non-functioning ladder are "gold" players). The more hits you make, the more LP you get, thus rushing to get the most hits is encouraged. This should not the how it works.
There are still bugs, the spectating experience is still horrible, the HUD is still one giant mess, Maniaplanet is still a big joke, no ingame tutorials, menus and design is a big joke (as they're not intuitive and easy to understand), but what bugs me the most is how nothing in the game feels polished.
You know when you hit R to save a replay right? You'd think you'd be able to just hit R + Enter and it's over? No, you have to use the mouse and click on save. But wait, you're STILL NOT DONE. You also have to click away the "Replay has to be saved" dialogue box that appears.
And let's not get started on the main selling points of this game "So easy and simplistic" yet nothing is easy and simplistic. CS:GO is 100x more simplistic and easy to get into compared to SM. SM has a shitload of different blocks that all have different properties in terms of sound, speed, reload, jumping etc. None of this is explained ingame. WHY NOT?
I seriously cannot fathom how most of this hasn't been fixed by the fact Nadeo employees playing the game themselves? You'd think they'd do "Oh wait, that's not a very good way of doing this, I'll make a note and change this when i get back to work over the weekend".
That's right, they probably don't play the game or don't care. But the worst part is what Hylis says on the forums:
Maniaplanet is a long term project and it requires some big steps to be made by the team. Power Up is an upcoming checkpoint, but it's really difficult to know when we will release it and what it will include because of the other things we are working on, with higher priority. So, there is no news and I think it's going to stay like this for some months. My goal is to provide information between the GA & the summer at the latest. And yes, the team is bigger than ever and working really well.
I can only imagine that they're working on new "enviroments" which is basically taking the same engine, changing textures and some small stuff and selling it as a new game to make money. And then the focus will go on to that.
Oh, do some of you guys remember when a lot of highskilled competitive players started getting annoyed on the forums about the direction of Shootmania? Then suddenly Hylis comes out and announces the Power UP! for Shootmania? Well, go read on the forums what he had to say today:
Power Up was supposed to be a more open development phase, but became closed for various reasons. So, the complete Power Up update will have to be done later and would have to go through a beta phase probably. But we have too much to do before it for me to talk about it.
Yeah, it was a nice way of announcing something to shut up the criticism (because as we all know, the reason SM isn't doing well playerwise is because of all the negativity, riiight?) and now it's put on hold indefinitely.
The story of Nadeo last couple of years has been full of unfinished products that's left unfinished because they take the same old engine, tweak it slightly and make new textures and sell new "enviroments" for money.
And then they have the nerve to keep telling their players to "Help us advertise" and "just stay positive, everything will be ok in the long run"
Shame on Hylis and shame on Nadeo for their behaviour. You are all test-subjects and $$$ to them and they don't care the slightest about making a good, competitive fps whatsoever. If they did they would've followed up with the promises from alpha/beta.
Instead they know have a FPS that isn't enjoyable to competitive players nor casuals for the large part and has among the worst and most laughable reputations of fps games.
It's really sad because most players that has or still play this competitive all agree that SM has soo much potential. That the idea was really good, but it became obvious a long time ago that Hylis and Nadeo is not the company to fullfill that potential.
