So let me summarize this real quick:
We are going to have a smaller cup, with less prize money, in a game which barely gets supported by pro teams, because the prize money and events are too small?
This "World Cup" will replace ESWC. So i guess that's rip for every good organisation. Nobody will send their players for 1000 euro (flight/hotel/several costs etc.) to an event with 3000€~ prize money... There wont be even a crowd.
Also, people enjoy LANs nowadays and still love the game, but most of i have speaken too are feeling angry now. What if there will be only a grand final with 4 players offline? That would be kinda bullshit. That's not a LAN. That's not fun. That's the practice. In theory it's maybe a nice idea to create an own world cup. But imo it just sounds not good for the pro players and the game. This more sounds like the end and not a start of a big thing. You save money on this compared to ESWC i guess.
We go for example to the LAN TheNest in Czech Republic because we enjoy it. Because we can be more than 4 or 10 people. Not because this game is so nice. It's more for fun. And in a world cup nobody wants to have only fun and pay money to potentially get less out of it. A World Cup should be perfect. It should be big ass and not small and worse than all the other years
Nothing else to say to this. Wish you good luck tho and i hope there will be many participants.

Not to be negative (haha, apologizing in advance now is what it has come to ), but there is a lot of truth in his reply.
On Discord Hylis +-said that it's more to keep the current players happy and to thank them to stick around in these hard times while they start a new chapter for MP/SM.
But for me its very simple : If the costs are always more than what I can win, then mostly I dont tend to go to that lan. If you live in France its a different story of course ( cheaper ).
For example : If you come from my country to France by train it's automatically +300€. Hotel is probably something like +30€/day. Food/Drinks 25€/day. Easily 600€ per person in my team.
3000€ = the prizepool? Divided amongst the top3/4 ?
So top#1 = 450€/player ( If you win of course )
No organisation in his right mind will ever sponsor this money. Never.
--------------------------------
So, you think I play for the money only? Wrong. I simply cant afford the 600€ to attend the lan. Big difference. I play to have fun over there and to be competitive with real opponents in an offline setting. Unfortunately it's simply too expensive.

mainly @massaxt
"Not good for pro players". You mean those pro players who are absent for 11 months in SM and come back for 1 month to train for ESWC and rip off the price money? Well, I like it if it's not good for those pro players then. Because I don't want that this happens again. This is bullshit.
Like Hylis said, this World cup is more meant to give loyal and active members the opportunity to compete on a nice event. Be more modest and appreciate things instead of finding every single detail to moan around. Giving criticism is totally fine.. but this post.. grr

He's talking about more than you think Soprah, but maybe it's another discussion. First of : Players that only come for the money are not bad people. I wanna make that clear. In a competition the best player deserves the win.
He's also trying to help by pointing out a negative thing about this world cup just like we did on Discord...
The competitive scene has shrunk soooo much that the game has lost its appeal to serious/'pro' players. Again very normal. You need to organise a frikking meeting to be just able to pracc; maybe you forgot that Soprah? But it's not normal to not even be able to find a simple pracc. At the same time the player base has shrunk. As a consequence of that the money went down and the number of lans went down. All very logical. Organisations dont wanna pay with their money for smaller games as it offers them (and their sponsors )no visibility. CSGO at Dreamhack : 500 000 viewers on Twitch. SM at ESWC 120viewers at most.... So now organisations are leaving too and more players leave. And players that cant get organisations cant get support. And if you cant get support then you cant go to lans.( because its too expensive )... It's a negative spiral and it's all connected.
The thing is... he actually means well and he wishes things were differently, but they arent. He also thinks that this world cup wont fix these problems and he's absolutely right.
But he also did not know what Hylis said on Discord. The world cup is not organised to address these problems. It's organised to bring a new challenge and great experience for the players that are still here. And if that's what NADEO wants to do, then let them do it & appreciate it.
How NADEO will address the "problems" I wrote down above is another story, but has nothing to do with this World Cup.
So instead of "grrrrrr" I hope you can maybe now understand what he's trying to say a bit better. gn my friend.
Also : For a serious/proplayer to ask for a big event is completely normal. Not Bullshit, Soprah.

Maybe ManiaPlanet is just not big enough for competitive organizations anymore...
I mean if we look at the number of active players, it's a small game...
But the small player base has the right to have its competition too. WorldCup doesn't pretend to replace ESWC imo. Take it like another team competition the same way you would take it if it wasn't Nadeo who organized it.
Because if it wasn't Nadeo nobody would have said anything and everybody would be happy.

ok, too many debates here. Like I said, I will probably go debate more on discord for real time discussion since this is too far from this forum purpose.
To give the official view on that from Nadeo
Many times in the past some people thought that having a big esport scene would make a popular game, but that's not the way it worked so far. Popular esport games are what they are because they are popular. Once they are popular, there qualities for esport are the best ally they can have, and for this, I believe we made the right games. Now we have to focus on making the game popular and even if it looks like the heavy part, I can tell that making the right game for esport is something as well. And of course it could help the game to become more popular, but certainly not because there are cashprize on it. Spectators does not look at cashprize, they look at shows, like with the ZeratoR Cup.
And cashprize then come from the spectators. Football league in UK started to be cast on TV since 1983 with quite small rights, meaning few people where believing in it / watching it. It took years to achieve that and while I understand that players wish for it to happen right now, it can take years to reach the success.
It may take one year, two, three or more. And the most important thing for us is that the place is good for players who like to follow this challenge with us. The ones that would like to make Maniaplanet a success with us, we would like them to see that there are events like this cup & upcoming updates, such as Maniaplanet 4 and after. I said in HP6 that there are major things we still have to announce, including some that will be important for esport. So, 2017 should have updates & announcements that are cool. 2018 as well. etc.
This forum is for the ones that would like to be part of this and concentrate on the positive efforts that we are all doing.
