You may say there will be bad maps using it. But there's also bad maps without it
I really think the use of cubes and signs can be helpful to make a map more easy to read.
Players could produce maps containing overlapping textures for example, since they don't have any restrictions or guidelines when building maps. This wouldn't be good at all for the game.
I agree with you about the cube and signs.
An advanced option like in TM2 is different than allowing blockmixing for everybody. Otherwise someone is gonna do a 3rd party blockmixing software like it happenned before...
And by the way, it has been possible to make buggy maps without blockmixing. Yet hard, but possible
