Sure, there are always exceptions. :?
TM and TMS servers are still opened too. And the same goes for TMNESWC.
The only TrackMania without servers is TMU (without TMUF upgrade).
So I don't see why TMNF servers would be closed.

The first versions of Trackmania (TM, TMO, TMS, TMSX...) were not free and it didn't prevent people to have lots of fun. Those guys that you call a "no-community" built up TMX, TM-Carpark, Electronic Tournaments, dozens if not hundreds of teams... What you call "no-community" is actually a different way of gaming, with less buddies but closer ones. Maybe it seems outdated in the facebook-friend era, though...

There is a much bigger drift in Canyons and you only have to tap your brakes to initiate wide sliding whereas the original Stadium drift is much less, more controlled and less 'floaty'. The handling physics of the two games are totally different.
Hey, i didn't say Canyon had the same gameplay as Stadium! My point was that, in my opinion, Canyon was rather close to Stadium - not identical (if you think Canyon is really that away from Stadium, you should try for instance Rally...). And i think Nadeo thought about how to please TMN players when they designed Canyon. I might be wrong, though...
firstdriver wrote:Having bought TMUF, the very thought that ours server should be closed down makes me angry. I'm looking forward to playing TM2 Stadium but I'll still play TMUF as well because it's a great game.
Of course, i didn't say TMUF servers should be shut down. I daily play TMUF... And although i said closing the TMNF servers could increase the willingness to buy the game, i didn't say it would be fair, i didn't say i would support it.

TMO, TMSX, TMNF and TMUF ones are still running. Considering Nadeo's policy until now, it seems unlikely that they could be closed shortly.
Timmeh7 wrote:Those are exactly my thoughts. TMNF should be shut down with the "new Stadium" release. Regard it as an update. :)
With still the Freezones system in TM2? With the advertisement coming back? (How wonderful!) With Nadeo building up debts until its banckruptcy to make this generous gift?
Timmeh7 wrote:I think that would the most reasonable option to get more players.
Getting more players is coming to its end. Considering the huge number of players on TMNF, i really doubt they'll easily increase it by a 10 factor with TM2, even if it is partly free. Furthermore, more players doesn't mean more customers, as long as the game is free... This could be a pride for Nadeo, but it will not feed them. Considering us, players, i think we'll not get a real advantage with more players, as long as most of those "more players" play mostly lol-maps on servers where nobody say "Hello"... The Community is worthy if it allows interesting exchanges between players, whether they are 10, 100 or billions. All in all, i'm not sure it is that reasonnable to give a free game (that is free for players but has a cost for Nadeo) to players that don't really take part in the community and bring nothing to the game nor to us who paid it.

Well, i have no clear opinion about how Nadeo should release Stadium on TM2 (free or not, limited or not, linked to another title or not...). Maybe i'll have an opinion in the future, but for now i'm just releasing my thoughts as long as they come. All the systems have advantages and drawbacks... Of course, we as players could ask for everything free and everything at our best advantage, without caring about whether or not it is viable, or about the other consequences it could have. But i don't think it is really wise.

I didn't really want to name anything in particular but I was really referring to EA's TW20xx series. Where they don't even make a patch for their crappy games and just tell you to buy the next version.

This will probably derail the whole topic. Sorry.

@ Romain42 ... Point taken mate :)

***********

I think Nadeo deserves something out of TM2 Stadium as they've put work into it. The options I see could be ...

A. Stadium free to anyone who has bought TM2 Canyons or if they buy any future TM2 title such as Valley etc.

or

B. A small charge (5 Euro???) to anyone who has bought TM2 Canyons or if they buy any future TM2 title such as Valley etc.

A free 'downloadable' demo which can only be played offline would be good. This is to give new players a chance to sample the gameplay & handling to entice them support Nadeo and buy at least one title. I don't think it should be free as in TMNF or we'll have the Freezone problem again.

What's up anyway with the high LP requirement of all active rounds servers?? So this game is only for dedicated proffessionals and the ones who like to play some kind of "lol" maps on time atack mode or what?

you're totally off-topic. Are you sure you posted in the right thread?

Rounds servers have traditionally been for more experienced/expert drivers, because you have to be consistent with your runs. TimeAttack is generally for less skilled drivers who can get lucky with a good run in the set timelimit. Nadeo's own ladder server requirements support and encourage this idea.

Now, back to the topic... :)

Well one problem in this topic (why the game should be free) was that there are no active rounds servers (well there are but they are not accessible :| ) and I did not want to make separate topic also for that question.

I think just opposite that the time atack is the one where beginners/casual games do not have a change (I don't talk aboud "lol" tracks here) - at least for me it is definitely like this. Everyone has like 20 tryes to make that perfect run and the pro's will make that and even improve it multible times but in rounds mode there are only one run and the pro's can screw up too and in general can't probably drive "so close to the edge with that ideal line" like in time atack when they can allways just hit enter and start over, if anything goes wrong...

I just can't make those perfect superfast corners but are fairly good at reaching the finish line without screwing up. And rounds are just lot more fun - it is realtime race where everything can happen! :pil

Sorry for that OT and also for my english  .
