I personally never have, and never will, be a fan of third party launchers. I don't like the idea of having to bypass advertising to start my games. I like the old way of clicking a game icon and the game loads. I find the extra steps and target marketing annoying and invasive, but so many have accepted this as normal now that it will likely always be part of future gaming.

No Steam?

Stick to your morals Ubisoft. Well done.

In the meantime, I will not be buying your game.

I despise how the EGS "announcement" is saved till the last minute as they know it will annoy those little people known as "customers".

Don't forget that Steam is actually a game selling platform from Valve, which is a game studio, hence a competitor, which eats some money which should go to Ubisoft and Nadeo entirely (sales fee).

Steam is perhaps the first to integrate many games with this kind of concept, and probably the most popular platform as such.
But how blindly some see it has the 'holy grail' for gaming is really silly.

See it like the movie and TV series streaming services. Not all services present the same stuff.

Probably also the new Trackmania will be on Steam one day, if it is not directly at the release.
Like some movies are exclusive for certain streaming networks at first.

This is normal business apparently, nothing to be mad about.

Still everybody has the choice to take it or leave it.

Hey,

just like so many people, I'm looking forward to the premiere of the new TrackMania. I started my adventure with TrackMania: Power Up! To this day I have an original cardboard box 8-) but true love began with TrackMania Nations. Ahhh coming from school and riding, that was something. That's why after hearing about the new TM my heart beat faster. Even my wife shows interest in this title. I got so into it that I watched the Grand League TrackMania on youtube and arranged a vacation for the first week of July :D However, there are some aspects that worry me:
  • 1) Media Silence - before the original release date set for May 5 there was not much information about the game itself - one article on Ubisoft webstie, a French reveal show, one post on Twitter. Considering what hype is being built around the new AC: V now and the premiere is much later, it could be useful to get the atmosphere turned on before TM relase. After an interview with Hylis, I understand this kind of behavior but it would not hurt a bigger hype.
  • 2) Menu UI - on the currently presented promotional materials we have seen the game menu and it is very good that the game in this aspect goes towards simplicity but for the 21st century it looked a bit poorly graphically. As I am not a specialist in designing such menus, I will blame the alpha state for this. Maybe suggest some sort of challange for the community to show creativity and propose its own vision of UI? As even a different perspective on the subject. Maybe something will inspire Nadeo employees?
  • 3) Optimization - probably too early to talk about it but it would be nice to know how it looks today. What equipment was the first presentation with ZeratoR and Hylis on? Any news on achieved FPS, 4k support etc.? Smooth gameplay on old i5 and gtx 1060 will be possible?
Okay, I wrote too much as usual. If you have any information or thoughts on this topic, share it. Thanks and see you on the track! :pil

Assuming this is still a Trackmania game, which never really seemed to be a very graphical demanding game. Keep in mind, that on Ubisoft support page Trackmania 2 Canyon has this as minimum requirement:
Processor: 1.5 GHz Intel Pentium or AMD Athlon or better
Video Card: 256 MB DirectX 9.0c compliant card with Shader Model 2.0 or higher

And for TM Turbo:
CPU SPEED: Dual core from Intel or AMD at 2 GHz or better
RAM: 2 GB
VIDEO CARD: Video card must be 512 MB or more and should be a DirectX 10 - compatible or DirectX 11 - compatible

Yeah, it will be a new game, but if you look at it, it probably won't require more than a 1024 MB GPU and an older capable processor will probably suffice as well. Might be wrong, but I think the assumption is definitely not far from what it's actually going to be.

Attention :!:
The system requirements for Canyon and any other Maniaplanet based title (TM2 titles, as well as Shootmania and custom titles) is now the same as for Turbo (since Maniaplanet 4 update two years ago).

The video card should be compatible to DirectX 11.1 and have 1 GB RAM.
The Mainboard should have at least 4GB RAM, since Windows 10 already eats a lot.
A Quadcore processor or better is also highly recommended.

In fact, I didn't realize that TM Turbo, despite being released in 2016, still had low hardware requirements. You definitely calmed me down :) Question is what changes will be implemented in the graphics engine.. anyway as you have pointed out there should not be a big difference.
