Re: TRACKMANIA² Stadium - Your Opinions

You're of course right Romain. Both types of servers should be possible.

It's true. These single environment servers were a changing fashion. First Island was popular, then Coast, etc. Only Stadium remained popular throughout it all, for obvious reasons. But it seems to be sort of a special case.

I never really thought of it in those terms, but multi-environment servers may have been key to the game's overall longevity.

multi envi thread

Romain, you are exaggerating

We are not denying it at all. You just have to understand that it is a complicated question and that our answers will come in a timely manner. Multiple environments titles are to be expected, so are multiple environments servers. I just don't want to commit to things that we have not done yet since there are sometimes surprises and negative players around to tell us how slow we are to do things, even if we are working on so many topics at the time.

Hehe, nice to hear Hylis.
A good thing to think is the way people will get out of the server when they dont have the required enviro.

Nice to hear you on this topic, thanks :)

And sorry for the misunderstanding, i was not talking about Nadeo when i said "denial".

It was rather a reference to the previous posts from players, of which some suggested multi-environment was useless, or even an outdated feature that Nadeo should better get rid off. I understand through eyebo's answer that i might have a bit over-estimated their point of view, though.

It's not the first time you answer this question of multi-environments servers in an ambiguous way. I mean, it seems you want to implement those servers, but it's like if you was affraid it might be impossible, for some technical reason... It makes me curious and it makes me worry about lots of questions... How could it be possible with United and not with TM²? Does Nadeo considers this feature as a secondary one, of low importance, so that it could be delayed after other features, considered as more important?

I think it's important to set priorities and not to work on all things at once, but i'd be a bit disappointed to see the multi-environments servers coming late (or worse, never). You've done already a great job, with lots of features we even didn't expect. But some of them are not as important as the multi-environments servers, to me. It would be a pity if multi-environments servers don't come soon enough after Stadium² and Valley.

Basically, we at ET might organize a valley-only league when Valley cames out, as we performed stadium leagues for years and canyon leagues too, but soon after players will want diversity back and we'll need the tools to set multi-environment leagues... We can't ask teams to have 3 servers for a single match, it's not in the means of all... And really not practical.

Now we have to hope... I think you understood our expectation, now let's hope it's high enough on your to-do list ^^.

PS: i fully understand you're more focused on Shootmania now and i support you in this way. The goal of my messages, even if they might appear as pressing, is not to disturb you from the legitimate priority of now. Just to let you know in time about a strong expectation for the next stage of the Maniaplanet project, ie before it becomes your work of the day.

Same way as a TMNF account get out of a United server?

when they have so many things on their list, this one doesn´t seem a priority to me. It will be only 3 titles for TM2, players can easily go from title to title. Now it´s even better to move to other titles, as they improved the loading time of the titles.

Maybe when we have more titles it will be more needed.

But I like the Shootmania style, where you enter Shootmania and see the list of servers of all titles, and you can click to go directly to the server in any title from the Shootmania "main" title.

The problematic isn't the same with TM².

On United, when you purchased the game, you have access to 7 environments at the same time, so you're sure that the players have them in any case.
On TM² that's different because a player can have an environment but not another (for example you have bought Canyon but you don't want Valley), how it's the best way to make a multi-environment server without annoying too much (or not at all) the players who don't have Valley (or another Title)?

That's the tricky question :)

That's the tricky question :)
Player A has canyon (1) and valley (2) and stadium (3).
Player B has only canyon (1) and valley (2).
Then the solution is really simple. Use a filtered server list.
Check player's title installed on the PC he is using.
If Player A plays on his PC with all titles installed, the check will return (1,2,3) as values for the installed titles.
If Player B plays on his PC with all titles installed, the check will return (1,2) as values for the installed titles.

Player A opens the server list.
Server list lists all servers containing environments 1,2,3.
Player B opens server list.
Server list lists all servers containing environments 1,2 and an tip like this "There are more servers available. To get the best online experience and play against more players, you need to buy titel 3."

I don't see the problem of people not having a title here. It's their own loss. I don't think Nadeo should take that into account at all.

I remember myself playing on a multi TMU server with a mate who only had TMNF. When a stadium track was on, he was able to join me but when another envi came up he just got kicked. Simple as that. If you don't have all envis, don't join servers like that.
