Re: Give me one good reason to play TM2
Since this thread has been -completely- derailed, I'm going to reference a slightly earlier topic of starting a server. I would do that save for 3 problems: One, I'm not sure if the warning messages that pop up when you first set up a server (Warning you must forward your NAT) Is an -actual- problem, or just a generic warning; two, I'm not sure how to set up all the stats-tracking things that you find on the common servers--I'm not necessarily into -everything- that pops up on some of the more, ahem, colorful servers, but basic interfaces are nice, and three; I'm not sure how to set up a dedicated server without paying loads of money, as I have none. If there's an "MPDedi.exe" that I can run in the back, or even on a separate computer, without it being a resource hog or taking up my "one license per computer" dealy, then I'll use that. Otherwise, I'm outta luck...

Trackmaniack, I am a game developer myself, I have a VPS with Ubuntu, I'm sure I can handle setting up a TM2 server.

As far as I know, TM checks your local IP. If it sees that you're behind a NAT (Router) then it will give this warning. It shows the warning regardless if you have forwarded ports correctly or not.Trackmaniack wrote:One, I'm not sure if the warning messages that pop up when you first set up a server (Warning you must forward your NAT) Is an -actual- problem, or just a generic warning;
I use FAST because it's very easy to set up and more simplistic than some of the other solutions. For instance, you don't have to set up a MySQL database in order to use it.Trackmaniack wrote:two, I'm not sure how to set up all the stats-tracking things that you find on the common servers--I'm not necessarily into -everything- that pops up on some of the more, ahem, colorful servers, but basic interfaces are nice,
There is a Dedicated server. It's a separate download. Get it here.Trackmaniack wrote:and three; I'm not sure how to set up a dedicated server without paying loads of money, as I have none. Running your own dedicated server doesn't take much. You just need your computer to be on all the time ideally.
You can set up a login for your server from your Player Page. Just click on Advanced -> Dedicated Servers. Set up the login from that menu. You are allowed to create up to 10 server logins per normal account (at least if its the same as it was in TMUF).
