The security or 'cracking' concern of letting environments be downloaded in a locked status would need to be addressed, but if it can be, then its a solution I have always favoured.
Would be great if Omnixor's suggestion could work without cracking concerns. As he said, the spectator mode would be a very effective advertisement, too, I think. :1010

Omnixor wrote:thought of another possible solution... people are allowed to join any server. when a track with title not owned by player comes, he's forced to spectator mode. you might ask "but he doesn't have that title to even be in spec?..". answer - let everybody download all titles. not for playing, only for spectating. not owned titlesshouldn't be shown anywhere (in main menu, etc), they should just exist to allow spectating. and seeing an enviro but not being able to play the track might be a good avdertisement too ^^
In my opinion it's maybe not a good solution, as people said before, i don't think that the players will like to download all the main titles + updates for games that they don't have/want.

Even today you can see in forum several people complaining that they received ShootMania updates (even if it's false) when they start ManiaPlanet while they have only TrackMania² Canyon.

Moreover several countries have still an usage limits each month with their ISPs (like in Ireland, Belgium, etc...).

Imagine that you have 1Gb update to download for a game that you don't have and that you have to wait to download/install it to play to the game?

I'm sorry but to it seems we're only thinking up solutions for people who want to sit on the first row for only one cent.
Meaning, If you want it all, buy it all.

This is true. But as we can see at the moment, this is the system of maniaplanet. If you don't like it, don't play it. This is as simple as it is. Each system has it down sides.
But I agree completely with zarexz. If they don't want to buy it all, then be aware that there will be disadvantages. I mean if you are only interested in one genre (e.g. TM), it is not to much to buy all off the games (two weekends no party, one month no smoking). Furthermore you will only see the servers that contain this environments (e.g. valley, canyon, stadium) and only get the updates for this environments (e.g. TM environments + updates for maniaplanet core elements).

There is always someone around that has a faster internet than you and can get the updates for you (e.g. downloading at the school, the university, cyber cafe, a friend with faster internet). Speaking out of experience here. If the internet is to slow at all, then only play offline until you get faster internet. There are people playing TM offline for over 2 years before they finally get into the online mode (look at TMX for example). And to be honest, does Blizzard with his weekly patchday in WoW suffer from problems with his customers? The customers just need to know before they buy the game what structure this game contains. If they agree, then it's okay. If not, then they will buy it and live with it or they won't buy it. I mean, freezone did work too. Only the players that did not want to pay left the community.

Allthough out of the question, with the prices here 2 weeks will be sufficient :roflol:

I would not suggest to force people to download content they dont want or need, but allowing them to download content which will enable them to spectate in servers which are running environments (or titles) they havn't bought yet is a different thing.

I think it sounds a very good way to sell environments (or titles), if you are confident that when they see it they will want to play it ;)

Agreed, I didn't consider this enough. ;)

So I think it's better, the player chooses a server appropriate to his installation. Either by a preselected list (the before mentioned filter) or what about small pictures/icons behind every server in the list that show the envis running on this server?

Anyway, it can't hurt if a player who hasn't installed all available envis sees what's going on on multi-envi-servers whereas his Canyon-only server (for example) is less crowded (the advertising aspect).

3 or 4 days here would do it.
Seems the best solution is to buy the titles you want to play and/or join servers that only cater to the titles you own.
I think if you own one title there should be a discount for a second. IE: Buy Canyon for $25 get Valley for $20. (Reward loyalty)

Will it be possible to run a multi environments server tonight?
I don't want to choose between Canyon's trees and Stadium. :roflol:
