It is a matter of fact that the amount of players increasingly shrunks before any big update, whereas the amount of player increases when a big update is released. To avoid that people leave the game or play less before any big update, it would be really helpful for both parties if there are more little teasers about the features. Those teaser shouldn't be done 'perfectly', just some pics or little videos would be absolutely enough and fine.
When you take a look about games which are in current development or are going to release new content/features for their games, you'll recognize that they publish some teasers/facts/videos - Twitter is really useful here - to ensure that the people don't lose their interest.
