About 100kb?
with camera editing, car ghosts, a big map , then a map can also have 10mb ( I mean with 100 ghost cars for example)

but normally 100kb-5 mb

The TMF dedi has a max map size of 128kb, i really hope that it will be a lot more in TM², to have the liberty to make "high end pc" servers with fabulous tracks.

Well I suspect that since the geometry for custom blocks is supposed to be stored within the map files in TM2 (if I recall correctly - however correct me if I'm wrong) then map filesize will probably be quite a bit higher.

But - Trackmania 1 has always maintained the theory of being able to play online using dial-up. I think these days most people now have 1m/bit broadband at the least (I'm on 20m/bit at the moment - very nice gaming internet) so the reliance of dial-up internet capability is certainly going to be less of an aspect Nadeo will be looking at.

But like I said - correct me if I'm wrong  but I'm expecting a map size averaging between 300-500kb. Maybe more.

Let's hope they will stay in the actual size or at a maximum 100kb. That would be appropriated for the most players and their connections.

Over exaggerate much? 100MB, really? Nadeo have an extremely cool compression engine that makes GBX files the size they are. Also look at Crusards TTCII track which has 100 ghosts, thousands of MT blocks and is only 2MB in size. :P

Granted this is TMF I'm talking about, don't expect the compression to vary as much in TM2, Nadeo would be silly not to adopt the pre-existing compression engine. Realistically, an average track for TM2 should not exceed 1MB; which may include a custom block or two and full MT (intro, ingame and outro) with ghosts.

I'll be very impressed if they manage to keep it under 256KB, that would be insane. 8-)

I think it is 512KB with the latest dedi, but Kryw told me that the client has a 250KB limitation

anyway, we changed it on the server side

512KB is pretty less as a maximum. So the usual track-files have to be smaller :)
thank you hylis :D

So, according to Hylis news and our thoughts, I think Nadeo will make something between 256 and 512 kb. It is preety sure.
