I want to buy canyon but i was wondering if people still play it online because i like maps created by other people etc.

probably, but way too less than in TMNF.

so is it word buying or could i better buy tmuf?

No, it is rather a new plattform which will combine all new games, starting with TrackMania² Canyon and ShootMania Storm. So if you like Canyon, you can buy it (this will make no difference with respect to ManiaPlanet V2.0).

Why wait?
Maniaplanet 2.x is not on itself, just update it when its released

I mean, i'd wait for mp2.0 to see if it makes canyon much more awesome than TMUF.

MP2.0 will not change much on Canyon. Perhaps we will see minor updates, but Nadeo is concentrating on ShootMania at the moment.
