[TM2] PERFORMANCE - suttering/frame freeze

Post by overlow »

So I recently came back to tm2 with upgraded gpu (about 2month brake) and now I am suffering from frame freezes every couple of second. I upgraded from NVIDIA gts250 to gtx550ti. I was doing fine with my old gpu and had absolutely no problems, but now with this new card I'm getting this frame freeze/stuttering.

I have absolutely no problems in soloplay and can run 60fps with nice graphics but when I go to multiplayer it starts to do splitsecond freeze every 5 to 30sec even with lowest settings which makes this almost unplayable. I think it has something to do with the netcode or something else that is only present in onlineplay. Also I have tried to shut down every program there is and see if it helps but it doesn't.

my PC is

Intel i3
nvidia gtx550ti with 1gb memory
6gb of ram
win7 professional

I have no similar problems with any other game

//edit, also did tm2 own benchmarking where I noticed no such stuttering either

Did the launcher properly detect the new card?
Perhaps you have to modify some video settings there,
e.g. cpu/gpu synchro off.

You might reset the settings to standard and tweak them one by one again.
Is a profile setup for TM2 in the video cards driver?

Did you try to hide the opponents (key 'o')?
Did you change anything at the network settings, e.g. p2p download of skins and music?
Did you try to shut down the music?

Sometimes the stuttering can come from file indexing, or another process that runs in parallel.

Yes the launcher has detected the new card, and I have tested pretty much every videosettings there is turned on and of and everything in between, and tried all the compability setting. Also I have resetted everything to default, tried turning of p2p functions, pretty much tried every option there is to configure. And also downloaded and re installed the game completely

Hmm gotta look if there is some profile setup in the graphics driver.

Tried turning opponents off and it didn't help anything, but then after looking these forums some I tried to hide the server widgets (* from numpad) and it did seem to help, atleast didn't notice any sutterings in 2 tracks. And I allways play music of (or rather turned the volume to 0 from the game)

Yeah, what can cause some stuttering might be the time lap updates of the opponents,
e.g. when they pass checpoints or finish the race,
as well as chat messages.

Is it the same on all servers or could you try to identify if it is only due to a specific type of server and widgets?

OK so I did some testing and didn't manage to find any server with widgets that works, but on the orherhand ubisoft servers which doesn't have any modifications worked just fine.

Would be nice if there was some way to disable all those custom widgets, but still retain those basic hud features (speed, time left on track, your current time, those checkpoint timethings, chat, etc.). Or maybe something like it shows those widgets only when I have finished or while pushing tab to see scoreboard.

And in the longrun to optimize the widgets (or maybe the problem is more deep in the maniascript or something). It would be nice to try pinpoint exactly what widget is causing the problem but I think that is out of my hands because I can't (or don't know how to) turn off individual widgets

Ok a bit of an update.

The problem is gone and game runs smoothly now. Then the "bad" news, I have no idea if the fix came from me reinstalling whole windows or from the game update.
