If you translate this sentence from the article @ gamersglobal.

Mehrspieler-Partien finden ebenfalls über Maniaplanet statt. Entweder auf offiziellen Servern oder weiterhin auf von der Community erstellten Dedicated Servern.
Multiplayer Games take place over maniaplanet. Either on the offical servers or on dedicated servers by the community.

Maybe some nice Nadeo servers for a ranking system? Who knows

Possibly testing various game pads. I know what you were getting at, but that is unlikely at this stage.

you can get a much bigger picture, if you click on the picture on gamereactor.de and then on "vergrößern" (en: enlarge) just below the picture.
