TM2: Benchmark and Minimum light intensity.

Just want to add these on the list of things to do/fix

Minimum light intensity is set higher in ManiaPlanet 2 than it was in previous version, resulting in brighter look on tracks that have "dark" areas. More info here.
(Hope this has high priority as it very much bugs me that tracks will not have the look and feel it was designed to have on certain tracks made in version1 of ManiaPlanet ;) )

Benchmark future comes up with "fail" when i try to run it.

I agree with the fact that it looks better in you pic from version 1

But I will need to check why it is like that in last update, since normally, we did a big job to make it look like version 1. This is why I wrote
"Lightmaps color fidelity increased, but with around 25%-30% increase of map size"

Will get back to you

And don't think this is simple and that only one place, one mood, one game should be looked upon. There are places in the map that you sent us that are with many color bugs somehow in MP1, and we are trying to improve this as well.

This topic is quite complex (more than I thought first).
To sump-up, dark colors will be back in Canyon soon.

a) New update didn't make thing worse, even if your version2_update screen is worse, it's not using the same lightmap cache as the version2. Please look at the shadow on the top ceil, only version2 has more texel.
Then version1 & version2_update uses a 1024x1024 cache (embeded in map), and version2 a 2048x2048 cache (local).
b) I've checked light values with the map file (Enterprise), and they're very low in that region (the red ones are close to 5/255 which is quite small).
Within such darkness, color encoding errors can make hue/saturation/value shift too much, this is why we've a gray tweak which desaturates darkness in lightmap (especially thoses with heavy compression, which is the case for the 1024x1024 cache).
The gray tweak limit has changed between versions 1 and 2, and we've raisen it to match canyon previous behaviour for next version.
And like Hylis said, the lightmap embeded in the map file have better storage accuracy in darkness area, so minimizing the gray tweak effect is ok.

Thanks

To technical for me this stuff :D

Anyway i trust you know better than me to make things better and fix bugs related to this. :)

Biggest problem for me on this whole topic of light/darkness and color is that when creating a "dark room", and adding/using these blocks with colored lights in them, the room then don't have that nice dark room with colored light effect shining out in the room(reflected on surrounding blocks), english not my strong side...hope you understand ;)
MP1 had that even tho it could be bugged in some way i don't really understand, just hope in some way we get that back in Mp2 somehow, because at the moment there is little shiny color effect to be seen, basically if i had started making that map of mine in picture with MP2 it would not turned out that way, because the desire effect(look and feel) of the start area would not be there as it was in MP1 :)

Funny to think that if i hadn't done that start area in that map of mine in MP1(and immediately noticed the difference in MP2) i would most likely not even have raised this question of the change in light/darkness ;)

I guess they are omni? Could you be looking for the property of spot lights? (prolly way off here ;)) If enclosed/dark area make surfaces more shiny/reflective? :pil

Happy to see the "color light reflect intensity"(unsure what to call it, my best guess) has changed for the better with the latest update, much more color reflecting on surfaces now...looks good but could still be overall a little "darker room" compared to Maniaplanet 1.

Anyway me happy ;)
