[ShootMania] Putting the gun away.

The problem I have with every single shooter (except Brink), the problem I fear with this game, is how where you can go is limited by unrealistic barriers. These barriers are...boxes. Now, I'm not saying you should do what Brink does where you can just parkour over everything. But it would be nice to just be able to put your damn gun away and be able to climb over certain terrain like say boxes or even the roof of a one story house. Maybe even have a system where people can assist in this climbing (in order to speed it up or reach areas you couldn't reach by yourself).

And while I'm on the subject. Don't have unrealistic fall damage. I'm tired of games where I jump off the roof of a one story building and end up losing half my life.

(BTW, I think a feature like this should also be included in QuestMania.)

Not to get too far off-topic, but for those that have played the Battlefield series, I am of the mindset that BF2 should be the shooter that all others are compared to...including how they deal with fall damage. However, by that same token, the height should be raised just a bit, so you can jump maybe like 15 feet before having to open your 'chute.

If it'll be like TM and TM2, it won't be realistic. Realistic games nowadays aren't realistic, this results some very-good-graphic shooter, the game tries to be realistic, but it's not possible. I would be happy if it's not realistic, rather it is funny.

I don't think there will be any irrealistic barriers. Instead it will hopefully be like trackmania, how if you leave the map and keep driving, you drive past the background, and then eventually fall into nothingness (if thats a word lol)

I am inclined to believe that Shootmania will be more akin to Quake than Battlefield or Call of Duty as far as game mechanics go, which means not being able to get past obstacles in a timely manner is not a big issue. Also, as obstacles are a useful aspect of a shooter, I see no reason why you should need to get over a box or obstacle that you cant jump over anyway.

Additionally, although we have seen little from the game. The editor shots so far have been lacking in annoying obtrusions of which you speak, although we shall see.

I think it will be like unreal tournament, but in a trackmania map lol. Minus the track of course.

If you're comparing movement to Brink then you may as well mention the issues that arise with the Brink's movement system. Brink's movement is less of "parkour over everything" and more of "walls that bullets cannot pass though, but players can" and can easily be related to a simple force-field mechanic that forces the player through an animation to pass though. It's just mechanic added to the game, and calling games that don't do this "restricted" is ridiculous.

On to the topic, as others have said, Shootmania will most likely play more like Quake or UT than more "realistic" shooters like Battlefield, in which map design is a huge part of the game's balance. Obstacles in the game are meant to block player interaction (movement, shooting, etc), and which some can be passed through advanced movement techniques some are put in place to definitively stop the player. Saying that this "restricts" the game, or that it's an issue is just ignorant.

You can be assured that if you take the time to do that, you will be eliminated.

There are already bumpers (like springboards that make you jump far or high) to enable you to jump large objects or gain height quickly. Those can be placed at key points in the map by the map author, you, for those places where you want players to be able to get up onto higher parts of the map.

There is no fall damage at all (unless you land in an offzone, but that will eliminate you even if you just walk into it). I suppose those awesome boots absorb anything from a fall. Plus, with the ability to glide, you often land smoothly anyway... no matter the height you drop from.
