Is there a good example of how to use threading somewhere or any documentation at all?
I'm coming to the point now where I think I need to offload some work to other threads but I don't remember where or even if I've seen any info about it.

You can find documentation on the googlecode wiki but I'm not sure it's up to date (I think I did it after I improved it but can't remember). You can also see how it's used in our standard plugins: PluginManager and TeamSpeak.
