I'm not sure if that's intentional or not, but the autosaves appear to record the latest replay (when I race against it) as opposed to the fastest replay on a track. So that I cannot compete against my personal best - it's always overwritten by my latest. Can this be changed (back) to... normal?

On TMNF I always drive against my PB to see where I win and where I lose time, and to test other racing lines. As it is I'll need to back up any file I intend to launch via Windows Explorer.

yes, i was just about to report this bug...
every time when you choose to play against the replay on stadium your personal best time and replay in avtosaves get overwritten by your best time during versus against the replay. no matter if it's slower or faster then your actual PB.
