Well, it seems to work in TMUF/NF but not in maniaplanet?

You have to have the shaders set to "Fast" to see the fake shadows properly.

hmmm... I save this file with paint.net and/or photoshop CS.6 and I got always the same effect
Which plugins do you use to convert shadows, which should work in Maniaplanet?
I have these settings in Photoshop

If I remember correctly, it was told that the fake shadows cannot be in colors, and get transformed to gray automatically by the actual 3D engine.
This means neon lights below the car are not feasible, if you tried to do exactly this

Sorry. Shader settings in the trackmania launcher need to be set to "Fast" indeed.
Save your file as DXT1-No alpha.
EDIT: You also have to be on track. It doesn't show in colour in the painter menu.

cool

but this means the shadows are still gray with nice shader settings, right?

I can't reproduce a grayscale fakeshadow at all.
It's either there in colour or not at all.
Shaders: Very fast & Fast = coloured
fakeshadow.dds
Shaders: Nice & Very nice = dds file is ignored.
