Suggestion: more map size variants

Hi all,

In the older TM games, we were given more creative options in the form of various map sizes. It would be beneficial if both Stadium and Canyon also had a few other dimensions to pick from. (it would especially be good to see Stadium having some variants for the first time)

For example, a larger square shape and a few rectangular sizes (I don't think 10x150 should be available, perhaps something more 'balanced' like 20x90).

Thoughts are welcome. Thanks!

I also miss the possibility of rectangular shapes on maps.
On the other hand, the lightmap calculation would take ages the larger the map is, besides that it might only be playable at high performance machines only :|
We simply have to accept the fact that ManiaPlanet is not a "open world" editor at the moment ;)

He did not suggest custom shapes, just alternate versions. Less blocks on X, more on Y, about the same amount total.
It was in earlier TM's too.

I'd say: why not?

I'd like some alternate sizes too. For instance, 20x90 would be really nice for creating some maps that feel more like a long journey from point A to point B, instead of just driving in circles. I really liked that about some of the TMO bases.

Agreed (not the TMO bit though, since I haven't played that :P).

I didn't play TMO either, but the bases were available to be used in TMUF.

When using Map.Size in for example in the Editor its a read-only value so. I think it will be a though nut to crack or Nadeo opens up that part to maximum of

Code: Select all

<32,32,32>
.

I don't remember different sized maps to choose from in TMO. I played Trackmania from its beginning (before it was called Original) however, I never played the version called "Original" I assumed it was part of TMUF. Was it an official Nadeo option or part of a mod like the physics swap mod or unlimiter?

BTW - I do think it would be a cool option too. I'd love to make a Baja style map.

I have never needed a differently shaped base in all my Trackmania years and I cannot imagine that I'll ever feel like I really really need different shapes of bases.

However, with the Unlimiter it was possible to change the mapsizes from 32,32,40 to something different up 255,255,255. Even though it was possible, I didn't feel like I should use it :P
If one day the Unlimiter return, we will see differently shaped track bases again ;)

TMO was an official update for the first TM.
