Hello. Today when I tried to launch Shootmania it told me that there was an optional update. I clicked restart to update and the download started on Steam. When I relaunched the game it said the same thing, so I clicked update later, but it still would only say restart game now.

I tried deleting all local content of the game and re-downloading it multiple times. Every time, the same thing came up, but the file size of the update was slightly different? Not sure what to do. And yes, I have purchased the game.

Do me a favor and login at http://player.maniaplanet.com with your ManiaPlanet username and password.
In the menu-bar, hover over "Account" and then click on the bottom entry "Optional updates"
Set "I want optional updates" to "No" and re-install the game.
This should fix the issue.

Okay. Re-downloading now. I will let you know if this works.

This did not seem to fix the problem. Maybe I should try downloading the game through the ManiaPlanet website instead of steam? Other than that I'm not sure.

I'm having exactly the same problem - I also use the Steam version. I tried the method suggested above but the problem persists. I did notice that my configuration settings were the same after I re-installed, so maybe Steam is backing up this file somewhere?

Is there any way we can manually turn off optional updates in a config file somewhere?

Does the game restart with administrator rights ( or asks for them ) after completing the update?

So I downloaded the Maniaplanet.exe from the website instead of steam. When I open the game I still get the optional update but when I click play later it actually launches the game. I guess for now this will work, but hopefully it will work on steam in the future.
