Custom horn

Hi everyone!

I've made a custom horn by following instructions I found online. It's a little over 3 seconds, and 51kb. It's a mono .ogg file.

I can select it in-game and I can hear it in-game. However, other players cannot. These are players that CAN hear other custom horns. Just not mine. These are also players who I've played multiple maps with - so they have had plenty of time to download my horn.

I read that I also needed a .loc file which contains a public web url of the sound file and that the .loc file should have the same filename as my .ogg track. Both of these are true.

I checked my p2p settings and I have both download and upload allowed. So I'm not really sure what the problem is at this point.

Again:
.ogg file named sexyhorn.ogg
.loc file named sexyhorn.loc
.loc file has "http://www.warums.com/rafhorns/sexyhorn.ogg" as its content
.ogg file is just over 3 seconds long
.ogg file is 51kb

I can hear it in game, others can't. What gives?

hey there
all seems good just the locator file name isn't 100% correct
it's supposed to be named like the file + .loc

Code: Select all

sexyhorn.ogg.loc
two other things:
1. locator is in the same folder like the .ogg file?
2. custom content download is buggy sometimes, i've had a horn which nobody was able to hear even though i did nothing differently as with the other 20 horns i've had...

Using locator format "filenamne.ogg.loc" to get it to work is my experience.
^Oh also make sure its UTF-8 without BOM. If nothing else works download Notepad++ and use that.

Also make sure you have locators enabled. I would go as far as to only have locator enabled just to see if it works.
Really shouldnt matter on your end but removing your own p2p upload option would force others to go for the locator. As long as they themselves have locator enabled that is. Also remember it takes a while to kick in and you can follow filetransfers in the analysers big screen, right column.

Try this: select another horn and click OK, then select back the horn you made, click OK and go back to the main menu (a quick message should pop-up reporting that you're profile is being updated). Then join a server and it should ask you if you want to share the horn or something around those lines. After that it should work, or at least it did for me (had the same problem once).

Also, i never use locator files & my custom horns works just fine...

I have the same problem now, nobody can hear my custom horns.

Mono .ogg, locator, p2p settings... all that stuff is correct as in OP's case.

Did you happen to solve this raflop?

I think a lot of people are getting this issue now, my horns used to work now none of them do, I've tried buying them from Manialink stores and attempted to make them myself in the correct way and nothing is working.

If any of the Dev's for Shootmania could possibly take up this issue in more detail it would be greatly appreciated!

Has this been updated yet? My horns aren't working with oggs, wavs, locators, or without locators. I can hear them, but no one else can.
