I think there should be a button to invoke the esc-menu ingame.

There is the maniaplanet icon at center of screen when mouse is moved to the top bar... maybe that could be used for accessing menu with pure mouse

and i think that the menus perhaps could be accessible also with controllers (keyboard and gamepad)
