Steam Version: You are not online

I just bought Trackmania: Canyon on the Steam Summer Sale and when I enter it it says that I am not online, and no matter how many times i try to press the Connect button , I am greeted with the same message: You are not online.
I am using Windows 8, no antivirus and playing from a very good specs laptop. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Try to open Internet Explorer, and check if this is online (if you can connect e.g. to
www.maniaplanet.com with it).
If it does not work, go to the menu of IE, and remove the offline-mode.

Internet Explorer is online, it works, but the game still doesnt. When I click Stay Offline button and it leads me to the 4 titles boxes and I choose to load Trackmania: Canyon, when I press the Load button, nothing happens.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Start Steam, start ManiaPlanet. Close ManiaPlanet. Check the library in Steam for downloads.
Close Steam and start it again. Are now downloads happening?
Perhaps they distribute the updates in batches to players, so their servers are not overloaded, then you have to wait a few days until you also get it.
