What is the Bug? TM2 Valley crashes back to the desktop at ~40% through the track loading screen. Maniaplanet will not relaunch until the machine is rebooted

How can I reproduce it? I don't know, I believe this may be a hardware incompatibility issue

What is my expectation of this bug? I would like to be able to play the game without having to buy a new computer

Hardware: Radeon X600 254Mb, Core2 Duo, 2Gb ram
System: WinXP, single user with admin rights
Network: Wireless to 8Mb ADSL router
Default Browser: Firefox
Antivirus & firewall: Windows Defender, Windows Firewall (access to Maniaplanet allowed)

I suspect this might be cured by changing settings in the advanced settings screen, but I'm unsure of which to try.

your videocard is veeeery old, I guess you expect too much...

I know, this PC is built from parts I got out of a skip, but it works nicely (runs GTA San Andreas no problem), and I've played older Trackmania incarnations on much much slower machines.

I wouldn't mind if it ran but was pulling 10fps or something, or if I just got a message saying my graphics card was missing features - thats par for the course with shoestring computing

You know, GTA San Andreas was released in 2005. So... 8 years, it's very very old when you're talking about computers equipment.

I've played Canyons and the Stadium beta on a machine with similar specs (just a different model of equally old graphics card, slightly slower CPU), so I was hoping I could get it to run on this one with a little persuasion

Try to use "low resolution" setting - as with this low memory especially the texture size cause issues.
Start the Launcher via the ManiaPlanet icon, go to Configure, and untick [x] High Resolution.
Save the settings and continue with starting the game.
It might ask you if you want to download low resolution textures.

Thanks, I'll give that a try If no beef I'll go find a graphics card with a bit more ram - thank you for the explanation!

Just for the record, TM2V also wouldn't load with 375Mb, but now runs nicely on a cheap 2Gb fanless card
