Four of us were playing in the same room on a public server on IceMania map and we noticed one player was black even when under the lighted areas (no red outline ever). His nametag was also dark. This definitely gave him an advantage. This went on for a while, so eventually we asked in chat how he was doing that and then he immediately became bright and asked what we were talking about.

We have custom avatars turned off in our clients. Is this a bug, a hack, or something else?

It's one of the Beginner Battle maps.

It's nice because it has many dark areas so it's hard to see players sometimes. In the light areas though, everyone is visible (except for this one player which is why we all had this question).

Do you have a saved replay of that match or a screenshot?

No, we didn't have a recording going. Just wondering if this is a known issue/bug/hack or maybe it was a one-time glitch, it just seems unlikely with 4 of us seeing it during the same round.

Was the server a "beginners" one? If yes he was probably a beginner. If you don't know I quickly explain: beginners have small buff until they earn skill, so they have 3 armors, 50% faster ammo gain and their EnergyLevel equals 0 (they have no bloom on character).
