Embedding items Limit only 150kb

The current filesize limit to embed items is 150kb. Can somebody tell me why it is this low?
Is there another reason besides : "It takes more time for the players to download" ?

Lets take a closer look at todays internet speeds using this website which only shows average connections based on the last 30days  Probably the best source out there.
http://www.netindex.com/download/allcountries/

Europe's Average : 26.4 MBPS - 150kb = 0.042seconds
France's Average : 30.8 MBPS - 150kb = 0.039seconds

Fastest of the world
Hong Kong's Average : 90.90 MBPS - 150kb = 0.013seconds

Slowest of the world
Niger: 0.65 MBPS - 150kb = 1.85seconds

So changing the 150kb to 500kb or 1MB would result in download-times around a 1second. While the nice people in Niger would have to wait maybe 10seconds.

So, NADEO why do you put a limit on your community's creativity when it could be 10x better for the cost of 1second?

-------------
Example of embedded items. No titlepack needed. Just embed the items in your map. ( ty Titshu, great work mate  )

Actually the numbers seems wrong, for example the average speed in France isn't 30mbps but 6,6 mbps. In France (when you are a random person, not a company), 30mpbs is when you're very close of the DSLam or when you have fiber (which is not common in France yet).
In Europe the fatest average Internet speed is at 13mbps (Switzerland)
Source: http://www.akamai.com/dl/akamai/akamai- ... =soti_Q114 (which is closer from the reality)

So either the numbers of NetIndex takes into account the overall Internet architecture of the country (and so counting the servers) or their tools are completely wrong.

Moreover in Maniaplanet the download may vary a lot depending several factors: number of locators on the maps (panes, custom sounds), the maps, the content of the players (horns, skins, 3D models), bandwith of the server. In my case it's not rare to wait 15-20sec before entering in a server (with custom data) while i have an excellent internet connection.

That's why it isn't an easy choice as you think it is.

MBPS is megabit per second.
so 64MBIT/S = 8mb/s
1bit = 8bytes.

I think the numbers are correct, im sorry :)

Here in Belgium ( next to France ) I have 120MBIT/s = 15MB/S for only 60€/month.
I think the lowest we can have nowadays ( in belgium ) is maybe 20Mbit ( 2.5MB/S )... I think in FR its the same...
So yeah, I dont think the numbers are wrong in any way. Its easy to say their numbers are wrong xD

EDIT: Ah well, maybe ur right. But I think that in 2014 we shouldnt be arguing about KB's anymore. Ive heard a lot of players ask for a higher limit and I agree. I have the speeds from my first post. Everybody I know has those speeds too... so for me its +1second worst case scenario.

I was just lazy to put the M in maj, i talk in the same scale than you.

Edit : In your first post you talk about an average speed in France at 31Mbps, it's wrong, it's 6,6Mbps, so the site you're referring is wrong (and the numbers for France and UK in my source looks corrects for what i've been able to observe when i lived in those countries).

what i'm rather wondering about is why there is a separate limit for custom objects instead of just using the standard total map size limit of 2MB?

Ok, so i find 270000 different numbers on google xD

http://www.statista.com/statistics/2049 ... y-country/
These numbers are closers to yours Cerovan... :D

So yes you are right. With the lower speeds & other stuff ( locators, horns & what not ) its not an easy choice.

But,
My personal opinion remains the same: 150kb is very low

Maybe NADEO should accept blocks made by the community and make them official at some point after a quality check. This way these blocks are added to everyones PC with every new MP-update & they dont need to be downloaded anymore when a player plays a map using these blocks. The player already has the blocks.

Remember that the embedded blocks exist to add a little more customization in the maps. Their goal isn't to replace one of the uses of the Title Packs.

This decision can have a lot consequences for the game and may require a lot of work (mostly time) on our side. Between the decision of the utility of the block, to check its combinatorial, i don't think Nadeo has the manpower to do it (without slow down the others projects).

@steeffeen: I can't talk for Hylis but as you know, a map file contains the coordinates of the blocks that the player has because they are in the environment/Title Pack. An embedded blocks is different because the client has to download the block and then place it on the map.
In one side it could be to have a dedicated space to be sure to include the data of the custom block to be sure to be able to download it even if the map file is full, and in the other side, to limit the number of custom blocks on a map.

ha! because i didn't look into it yet, i assumed that the block data is actually embedded into the map file and not just a link to it :?
thanks for the clarification

As i said, i suppose only, because the block can be use on several titles, i'm not sure if the block is saved in the map file or only the link, and i can't ask because a good part of the staff is in vacations right now
