Overwatch finishes Shootmania

To put it in a nutshell: Shootmania was even struggeling to keep a few regular players before the open beta of Overwatch. The core players of the core players were still playing the game. Since the 5th may, things changed. Even the very core SM players left the game. They did not totally quit the game, I am sure that they will keep playing it occasionally. But last night I had to figure out the harsh truth... at Friday night (9pm and actually the time where everybody is playing), 0 players were on the Shootmania Matchmaking server. 0 guys were playing. Absolute 0. Usually, there are ~20-30 ppl playing at this time... but it was truly horrible to experience that there were 0 players on the elite matchmaking. And when I went on the shootmania discord server, basically 30-40% of the players were playing OW. Overwatch finishes Shootmania / gives it the rest.. I am not better; I am playing a bit Overwatch as well. The more I play OW, the more I lose interest of SM. A few friends think the same.

I know, it's open beta right now. And the hype of the Overwatch game will decline. But so does the playerbase of SM. It declines more and more as AAA games get released.

I just don't know what to say.

Helpless greetings,
Soprah

Oh really? Didn't even noticed it.
Just yesterday we had the problem that we were way too much players on the siege 100k so even the spectator spots were full xD And this nearly all the evening/night.
I don't think it's over now. ShootMania players are quit hard to kill tho! :roflol:

Because the beta will close very soon, I think some trying to play it more while it is available just to make an opinion about it, not necessarily because they definitely prefer it over SM. But some could like OW more than SM also. It's too early to say. Need to see how it goes after OW release.

As a casual gamer, ShootMania is the only FPS I love playing, thanks to its simplicity. From what I've seen so far, Overwatch (along most FPS) doesn't seem to be suitable for my needs.

Guess I'll stick on ShootMania a few more years :pil

You cant compare Overwatch and Shootmania anyway, OW is a great game, but its more like a Team Fortress clone. 6v6 with many classes to chose from, many different abilities. I dont think it will change the Shootmania activity over time

I think overwatch will end the elite and the competitiv community, however siege, battle and other communities might stay as they are probably less interested by this new game :)
It's not that surprising to see more players on siege, if players can't play elite, why not go in siege :)

OW will maybe kill some casual communities since the game has low skill gap which means, everyone is pro in the game BUT funny thing is, every other hero shooter is getting the same responses(OW will kill your game) but it won't happen. I heard multiple times at Dirty Bomb forums that nobody will play and bang - still 3k-5k people online ;) It shows that there are still some hardcore PC players who want to show skills to defeat opponnents.
